Day 3 Prelims Heat Sheet – Girls
Day 3 Prelims Heat Sheet – Boys
Day 3 of the 2025 Winter Junior Championships – East will kick-off with heats of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke.
After winning events on night 2, Rylee Erisman and Audrey Derivaux will be ones to watch on day 3. Derivaux, who posted the 2nd-fastest 200 IM in 15-16 age group history en route to winning the event on night 2, holds the top seed in the 400 IM by 3 seconds. That will be her only event for this morning’s session, though she could see additional relay action come tonight. Erisman posted 2 wins on night 2, sweeping the 500 and 50 free. Now, she will meet in the midde of those two distances with the 200 freestyle as she holds the top seed in that event.
Like Erisman, Baylor Stanton also won both his events on night 2, sweeping the 500 free and 200 IM back-to-back. This morning he is set to take on another double, with slightly more rest involved, as he holds the top seed in the 400 IM and the 2nd seed in the 100 backstroke. The men’s 200 freestyle should also shape-up to be a great race featuring 500 freestyle B-final winner Connor Christopherson, 50 freestyle champion Mike Rice, and top seed Liam Carrington. Christopherson should be one to watch in that event as he dropped 3 seconds from his personal best en route to winning the 500 free B-final last night.
GIRLS’ 400 IM – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 3:57.02, Katie Grimes – 2022
- 13-14 NAG Record: 4:06.95, Kayla Han – 2022
- 15-16 NAG Record: 3:57.02, Katie Grimes – 2022
- 17-18 NAG Record: 3:56.59, Bella Sims – 2022
‘A’ Final Qualifiers:
- Audrey Derivaux (Jersey Wahoos) – 4:05.51
- Vivian Moulson (Crimson Aquatics) – 4:12.63
- Ellie Clarke (Carmel Swim Club) – 4:12.73
- Emerson Callis (Quest Swimming) – 4:14.60
- Carly Afanasewicz (Phoenix Aquatic) – 4:15.20
- Avery Klamfoth (SwimMAC Carolina) – 4:15.86
- June Delmar (SwimMAC Carolina) – 4:16.74
- Sydney Hardy (Sarasota Sharks) – 4:16.82
Following a strong performance in the 200 IM last night, Audrey Derivaux led the 400 IM field by over 7 seconds. Derivaux established that dominance through the butterfly leg, splitting 54.74 to lead the field by over 2 seconds from the start. From there, she built her lead gradually, eventually securing the first overall seed in dominant fashion.
Behind Derivaux, 17-year-old Vivian Moulson dropped over 2 seconds off of her entry time to secure lane 5 in tonight’s final. Moulson touched the wall in a time of 4:12.63, significantly improving from her entry of 4:14.65. Close behind her, Ellie Clarke touched in 4:12.73 for 3rd overall. Clarke finished just a few tenths off of her best time with her swim, as the pair should set themselves up for a strong podium battle in finals.
All 8 swimmers in the A-final tonight went under 4:17 this morning and hold personal bests of 4:15 or better, so the race tonight should be tight across the board.
BOYS’ 400 IM – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 3:38.65, Carson Foster – 2019
- 13-14 NAG Record: 3:47.91, Luka Mijatovic – 2024
- 15-16 NAG Record: 3:39.83, Maximus Williamson – 2022
- 17-18 NAG Record: 3:35.27, Carson Foster – 2020
‘A’ Final Qualifiers:
- Baylor Stanton (Gwinnett Aquatics) – 3:45.33
- Yi Zheng (Carmel Swim Club) – 3:47.06
- Ian Heysen (Blue Dolfins) – 3:47.30
- Wilson York (Lakeside Swim Team) – 3:48.65
- Liam Smith (Greater Kalamazoo) – 3:48.82
- Owen Ekk (Area Tallahassee) – 3:49.07
- David Sammons (SwimMAC Carolina) – 3:49.16
- Matthew Wolfle (NOVA of Virginia) – 3:49.24
As with the girls event, the boys event showcased some top end speed from the 1st overall seed as Baylor Stanton easily defended his spot to claim lane 4 in the final. Coming off a tough night 2 finals session, Stanton was relaxed this morning as he posted a time of 3:45.33, about 4 seconds shy of his best time (3:41.50). Expect him to be much more agressive in finals as he looks to pick up his third title of the meet.
Yi Zheng from Carmel Swim Club also came up just short of his best time in prelims, but posted a solid 3:47.06 effort for the 2nd seed into tonight’s final. The 16-year-old holds a best time of 3:45.67, which should comfortably slot him in as a favorite alongside Stanton.
Most of the remaining swimmers who qualified for the A-final saw time drops this morning, the most notable being Owen Ekk who qualified 6th overall. The Stanford commit posted a time of 3:49.07 this morning, dropping over 10 seconds off of his personal best of 4:00.41 from January.
GIRLS’ 100 FLY – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 49.49, Alex Shackell – 2023
- 13-14 NAG Record: 50.64, Claire Curzan – 2019
- 15-16 NAG Record: 49.51, Claire Curzan – 2021
- 17-18 NAG Record: 49.24, Claire Curzan – 2022
‘A’ Final Qualifiers:
- Charlotte Crush (Lakeside Swim Team) – 51.12
- Jianna Amores (South Florida Stallions) – 52.38
- Abby Chan (Huntsville Swim) – 52.62
- Emma Grace Richardson (SwimMAC Carolina) – 52.68
- Taylor Klein (Mecklenburg Swim Association) – 52.70
- Nikki Nixon (TAC Titans) – 52.78
- Caroline Mallard (SwimMAC Carolina) – 52.93
- Molly Sweeney (Carmel Swim Club) – 52.98
Lakeside’s Charlotte Crush dominated the heats of the girls 100 butterfly, taking the top seed by over a second in a crowded field. A testament to Crush’s speed, the margin between her time and Jianna Amores‘ 2nd-place time from this morning (1.26 seconds) is over double the margin between 2nd and 8th (.6 seconds). Crush’s time of 51.12 from this morning was just over a second off of her entry (50.00), but she could be looking to challenge Alex Shackell’s meet record of 49.49 in finals.
The aforementioned Amores saw a drop to claim the 2nd seed, slicing .2 seconds off of her best time 52.58 to touch in 52.38. She set her previous best time just a few weeks ago in mid-November, so watch for her to further improve in the final. Behind Amores, the field was very close, with all 6 of the remaining swimmers qualifying for the A-final touching between 52.6 and 52.9. There was a distinct cut-off to make it back for the A-final as all of the swimmers went under 53.
BOYS’ 100 FLY – PRELIMS
- Meet Record: 43.86, Thomas Heilman – 2024
- 13-14 NAG Record: 45.81, Thomas Heilman – 2021
- 15-16 NAG Record: 44.67, Thomas Heilman – 2022
- 17-18 NAG Record: 43.86, Thomas Heilman – 2024
‘A’ Final Qualifiers:
- George Dovellos (Bolles School) – 46.85
- Mike Rice (Mecklenburg Swim Association) – 46.88
- Brady Campbell (Mason Manta Rays) – 47.12
- Alex Goodman (Jersey Wahoos) – 47.20
- Austin Carpenter (Central Ohio Aquatics) – 47.29
- Albert Smelzer (Greensboro Swimming) – 47.30
- Zack Kusch (Streamline Aquatics) – 47.32
- Landon Rising (Greater Toledo Aquatics) – 47.46
All four of the top finishers in the boys 100 butterfly saw time drops as the field was led by Bolles School’s George Dovellos, who hit the wall in a time of 46.85 to secure the top seed for the final. Dovellos, a Harvard commit for next fall, sliced .4 seconds off of his best time with his swim as one of only 2 swimmers in the field to go under 47 seconds. The other swimmer to dip under 47 was Mike Rice, who finished in 46.88 for the 2nd seed. Rice bested a strong 50 freestyle field on night 2 for a victory there and is now in line to pick up his second medal of the meet.
Brady Campbell from the Mason Manta Rays had a big swim for 3rd, slicing 1.3 seconds off of his entry time to touch in 47.12 this morning. Campbell, the 2025 Junior National Champion in the 50 butterfly LCM, has traditionally been stronger in the long course pool, so his swims so far this weekend indicate that he could be seeing that speed reflect in SCY.

Top seed Rylee Erisman held down her spot in lane 4, taking the top seed for the final in a time of 1:43.89, only about .4 seconds off of her best time (1:43.51). Erisman previously split 1:41.86 on the 800 freestyle on night 1, indicating that she could be leaving something in the tank for finals, where she will be chasing Katie Ledecky’s 15-16 NAG record of 1:42.03.
1000 freestyle champion Elizabeth Eichbrecht finished 2nd to Erisman this morning with a controlled 1:46.80, just ahead of Nashville’s Faith Gorey (1:46.87) and Laker Swim’s Brynn Lavigueur (1:46.88). With all 3 swimmers finishing so close together this morning, they could find themselves battling for the remaining spots on the podium in a close fashion tonight.
Michelle Dean qualified 5th in 1:47.14, notably knocing almost a second off of her personal best of 1:48.10. That is notable as Dean swam that time only a week ago.

Badger Swim Club’s Michael Geh hit the wall 2nd in 1:36.19 for a solid .2 second drop off of his entry time of 1:36.43. Geh, a Princeton University commit, already saw big drop in his 200 IM earlier in the meet and could be set up for something special in finals.
Back in 4th, 16-year-old Alex Goodman dropped over 2 seconds off of his best time to make it to the final. Goodman touched in a time of 1:36.42 this morning, chopping a large chunk of time off of his previous best of 1:38.85 from last month. Notably, he did so just a few minutes after qualifying 4th for the 100 butterfly final with a best time in that event as well.

Nearly breaking the 1:00-barrier, Maddie Moreth sliced almost a half second off of her personal best to claim lane 4 for the 100 breaststroke final. Moreth, who is committed to the University of Florida, hit the wall in a time of 1:00.04 to establish herself as the top seed. Behind her, Carmel Swim Club’s Molly Sweeny and Mecklenburg Swim’s Eliza Wallace also broke 1:01 to take 2nd and 3rd this morning, respectively. Sweeny cut over three tenths off of her best time to touch in 1:00.44, while Wallace was just off her personal best in 1:00.83.
The field was largely slower than their seed times in this event, but 5th and 6th place finishers Reese Reilly and Taylor Clements each cut .2 seconds off of their best times to qualify for the final.

- Lucas Ackermann (Franklin Regional) – 53.47
- Prakhanthi Rai (Bolles School Sharks) – 53.51

SwimAtlanta’s Collin Holgerson proved to be dominant as he surged ahead of the boys 100 breaststroke field to take the top seed for the final by nearly a second on a time of 52.57. With that performance, the University of Tennessee commit dropped over three tenths of a second off of his best time of 52.94 as well.
Behind Holgerson, Jake Lloyd saw an even bigger drop to take the 2nd seed for the final. Entering the meet as the 16th seed with a best time of 54.62, Lloyd demolished that mark this morning en route to posting a 53.26. Notably, his previous best was only a few weeks old, set in late November.
A similar story played out for Lucas Ackermann, who claimed the 6th seed for tonight’s final as he also sliced over a second off of his best time to improve from the 17th seed on the psych sheets. Ackermann touched in 53.47 this morning with his performance.

- Abby Chan (Huntsville Swim) – 53.32
- Mia Buff (Greater Toledo Aquatics) – 53.33
Shorty after taking the top seed in the 100 butterfy, Charotte Crush was back in the water for the 100 backstroke prelims. The 17-year-old took to “crushing” her competition to take lane 4 in tonight’s final by a wide margin with a time of 50.97. Crush holds the meet record at 49.46 from last year, which she could look to challenge tonight.
TAC Titans’ Reina Liu finished 2nd in preims with a 51.85, the only other swimmer under the 52-second mark. The 15-year-old sliced .01 seconds off of her best time with her performance. Though she will likely need a huge swim to challenge Crush tonight, she is in a prime position to claim silver in the final.
Like the 100 breaststroke, the field was largely slower than their seed times in this event with many of the swimmers taking on the challenging 100 butterfly/100 backstroke double.

- Charlie Zuhoski (Bolles School Sharks) – 48.15
- Carter Wright (Bolles School Sharks) – 48.17
TAC Titans’ Davis Jackson and Gwinnett’s Baylor Stanton set themselves up for a great battle in finals, finihsing only .05 apart from each other in prelims. Jackson, the top seed entering the meet, defended his position with a 46.92 swim to come about .3 off of his best. Stanton, coming off of the 400 IM earlier in the session, was also about .3 off of his best as he went 46.97.
Collin Holgerson pulled-up an unusual double, claiming the 3rd seed here in 47.39 shortly after taking the top seed in the 100 breaststroke final. Luke Higgo, who was qualified using an LCM time, posted an impressive 48.13 to qualify for the A-final as the 6th seed after entering the meet as the 58th seed.

Can Bolles be stopped!??🚂
I asked earlier in the combined thread, Annie Xu, the 12 year old from China who I think broke a couple of Summer McIntosh age group records in Ontario swam the 400 IM prelims this morning, finishing 43rd in 4:24.84 for SwimMac Carolina. I read that her mother is a student from China studying in Toronto. Anybody know how she ended up swimming in North Carolina? Iam just curiosity.
I am just curious is what I meant to type. New here and not sure if posts can be edited.
my guess is mom just looked up best swim teams in the country lol
Seems at Winter Juniors no one minds that Charlotte Crush ignores the 1 yard rule. Officials need to pay attention.
15 oops
it’s actually a 15 meter rule, not 15 yards.
15m or 15 yards?
It’s 15 meters (or 16.4 yards)
Either way, we’ve seen Crush go past 15m several times so it wouldn’t be surprising if it happened again and officials missed it
LOL did she go over it again? To be fair, her underwaters are Gretchen-level so depending on the camera angle, it’s not always clear if she’s actually gone past 15 or not.
I mean, there was one year she set a NAG record in the 100 back while clearly going past 15, but she’s also been DQ’d internationally and I think they also DQ’d her at Winter Juniors last year in one event?
So it’s not like she gets away with it every time but yeah, she probably needs to take a few less kicks to be totally safe
Holgerson is reminding me of Anthony Grimm form 2019
the streets will never forget anthony grimm
literally
Holgerson coming for Will Modglin’s breast-back crown
was hoping to see if Rylee drops her 100 Back 51.4
but seems she scratched
She’s definitely aiming for the NAG.
Where are the breast/backers coming from?? Gonna be real interesting to see Holgerson under Kredich.
