2024 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day 4 Prelims Heat Sheets

After coming in as the top seed in both the 200 IM and 100 back, top-seeded Hubert Kos of Arizona State will look for his first win of the meet in the 200 backstroke. He set the NCAA record in the event with a 1:35.89 at Pac-12s, breaking Ryan Murphy’s record. Last year’s champion in the 200 back Destin Lasco comes in as the #5 seed but did not swim at Pac-12s. He already won the 200 IM on Thursday and will look for another individual win.

Josh Liendo has been on fire for Florida so far, winning both the 50 free and 100 fly. He will look to go three for three and is the #2 seed coming into the 100 free. He will look to defend his title after winning last year by over a second. The top seed coming into the 100 free is Notre Dame’s Chris Guiliano and he will look to win his first NCAA title after finishing 3rd in the 200 free and 4th in the 100 free. Guiliano had the fastest free split of the field last night in the 400 medley relay. The Cal duo of Jack Alexy and Bjorn Seeliger missed Pac-12s so they come in as the #7 and #8 seeds here but were 2nd and 3rd last year.

Leon Marchand is the top seed in the 200 breast and has already won the 500 free (in an NCAA record) as well as the 400 IM. He will look to defend his title in the event and set himself up to do so. After not swimming at NCAAs last year, Penn’s Matt Fallon makes his return as the #2 seed. Fallon and Marchand are the only two seeds under the 1:50 mark so far this season. Fallon was 3rd in the event back in 2022. Indiana’s Josh Matheny is the highest returner besides Marchand from a year ago as he was 4th last year. Matheny was 6th in the 100 breast last night and is the #8 seed in the 200 here.

Arizona State freshman Ilya Kharun is the top seed in the 200 fly. Kharun finished right on his 5th seed in the 100 fly last night and will look to replicate his seed in the 200 fly. After missing the 100 fly final completely, Andrei Minakov of Stanford will look to rebound in the 200 fly as the #2 seed. One to watch out for is the #16 seed Aiden Hayes of NC State who is the defending champion in the event. Although he will not be in a middle lane tomorrow morning, look for Hayes to move up to make the A final. Indiana’s Brendan Burns won the 200 fly two years ago and was 2nd last year. Burns comes in as the #7 seed here and will look to continue his momentum after winning the 100 back last night.
