Day 3 of the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships features heats of the women’s and men’s 200 fly, 100 back, 100 breast, and 800 free relays, as well as prelims of women’s 1-meter diving.

Defending champion and NYU sophomore Caitlin Marshall is top seed in the 200 fly with the only sub-2:00 entry, 1:59.95. In the 100 back, Emory’s Megan Jungers is the only entrant with a sub-54 (53.80), but NYU’s Jessica Flynn won this event last year with 53.69, so she will be a title threat as well. Kenyon sophomore Jennah Fadely (59.98) and defending champion Edenna Chen of MIT (seeded second with 1:01.09) are the ones to beat in the breaststroke.

In the men’s meet, Connecticut College sophomore Justin Finkel and Chicago junior Jesse Ssengonzi are seeded at the top with 1:45.31 and 1:45.32, respectively. Defending champion and NCAA recordholder Frank Applebaum of CMS is also a favorite; he is seeded 11th with 1:47.69. The 100 back will be exciting, as top-seeded Tanner Filion of Whitman (46.74) will be challenged by, amongst others, Adam Janicki of MIT (46.99 seed time) who broke the NCAA D3 record last night leading off the medley relay in 46.54. In the breast, Emory’s Jake Meyer (53.23) and Jason Hamilton (53.63) are seeded close together, followed by Bowdoin’s Alex Grand’Pierre (53.66).
