USA Swimming’s first priority to select swimmers to Rio: 1st place finishers in individual events and top 4 finishers in the 100 and 200 free. The second priority is taking 2nd place finishers in events that are not the 100 or 200 free. With 19 men and 20 women selected, only six individual spots left for men and six for women, and 26 spots for men and 26 for women, all those who fulfill expectations for 1st and 2nd priorities are guaranteed spots on the U.S. Olympic team.

Tentative roster members are those who finished 5th or 6th in the 100 and 200 free relays and did not fulfill the first two priorities (AKA winning an event or placing 2nd).

If all 1&2 place swimmers plus all 6 relay qualifiers are included and there are still spots available, are additional swimmers added?

Phelps Phan – no, it would be unprecedented to add more swimmers. The only events in which it would even be possible would be extra relay swimmers.

Don’t want to sound paranoid but with FINA and IOC you can never be careful enough. I think that unless you have to specify who swims on each relay (which don’t think you have to) only assign a relay only swimmer to 1 relay even if they qualify for more than one relay as a relay only swimmer just to minimize the chances of violating FINA’s new relay rule. They should still be able to swim more than one relay.

Y’all still don’t have Conor Dwyer listed as qualifying to swim the 200 free individual event.
