The University of Cincinnati picks up verbal from freestyler Sarah “Rocky” Laabs of the Lake Country swim club. She will graduate from the Arrowhead High School of May 2016 and join the Bearcats next fall.

The high school senior from Hartland, WI, was a 4th place finisher at the 2015 Sectionals meet in Iowa City in the 1650-yard free (17:17.43). She also holds the 2nd fastest times in both the 200-yard free (1:49.40) and 500-yard free (4:53.98) in the 2014-15 Wisconsin Girls State Top Times list. Her 200-yard freestyle personal best has qualified her for the 2015 SCY Winter Nationals.

Laabs best times:

  • 100-yard freestyle: 53.89
  • 200-yard freestyle: 1:49.40
  • 500-yard freestyle: 4:53.98
  • 1000-yard freestyle: 10:10.31
  • 1650-yard freestyle: 16.59.40

Laabs will swim under Mandy Commons-Disalle, who has just started her 2nd year as the Bearcats head coach this 2015-16 season. Her best times would place her on the Cincinnati women’s all-time top-ten list 3 times. Her best 500-yard freestyle time places her 6th, her 200-yard freestyle best time places her 7th and her 1000-yard freestyle time places her 8th.

That 100 free to 200 free is wicked splitting! Is the :53 in her 100 a split from her 200?
