Carmel Swim Club Girls Break 15-18 NAG, Junior Nationals Meet Record in 400 Free Relay

The Carmel Swim Club 15-18 year old girls’ 400 meter free relay has broken the National Age Group Record in the 400 meter medley relay.

The team of Rachel Hayden, Veronica BurchillClaire Adams, and Amy Bilquist combined for a 3:44.88, beating the 3:45.50 done by the Colorado Stars in 2010. That Colorado Stars relay was an incredible team that included Caroline Piehl, Kelly Naze, Jordan Mattern, and superstar Missy Franklin.

Carmel’s splits:

  • Hayden 57.37
  • Burchill 56.06
  • Adams 56.23
  • Bilquist 55.22

Even at that, they arguably left a little bit in the water, as Bilquist was four tenths faster than that in her individual 100 free on a flat start.

The Carmel girls earlier this month already broke the 15-18 record, with the same four swimmers, in the 200 meter free relay.

Full day 2 finals recap available here.

Awesome swim and all (especially Adams) but I hope they get a crack at lowering it when they’re all a bit more rested-they had 57.1/55.8/55.8/54.8 flat starts today, which would have been close to a full second faster, not including exchanges. Tough night when Burchill and Bilquist had the 100 earlier and Adams had the 100 and 2back. They’re probably capable of pushing it into the 3:42 range.
