YNat Champion Bailey Grinter Gives Verbal Pledge to Tennessee

Bailey Grinter, who swims for Edwardsville High School and Edwardsville YMCA in Edwardsville, Illinois, has given her verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee for the 2017-18 season. “I really liked the team and the environment and I felt like I really fit in there,” she told SwimSwam.

Grinter is the reigning YMCA National Champion in the 50 meter backstroke (29.42) and the bronze medalist in both the 100m back and 50m free. Moreover she finished 10th in the 200 back at the 2016 YMCA Long Course Nationals. The weekend prior to Long Course YNats she was runner-up in both the 100m and 200m backstrokes at the Columbia Sectionals, where she also finished sixth in the 50m free.

Swimming for Edwardsville High School, Grintner finished third and fourth in the 50 free and 100 back, respectively, at the 2015 Illinois High School Association Girls Swimming & Diving Championships.

Her best times are:

SCY LCM
50 back 26.73 29.42
100 back 54.57 1:02.91
200 back 1:59.04 2:17.84
50 free 22.62 26.05
100 free 50.90 58.99

Grinter’s 50 free time would have scored in the B final at 2016 SEC Championships; her 100 back would have made the C final.

Grinter joins Nikol Popov and Megan Sichterman, who will also be members of the University of Tennessee class of 2021.
