NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women’s swimming and diving team continues to roll. The Bulldogs improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in Ivy meets with a 199-101 win over Cornell at Kiphuth Pool.
Alex Massey and Ava Franks were both double winners for Yale. Massey won the 200 butterfly (1:59.26) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.82), while Franks captured the 200 breaststroke (2:12.02) and the 200 individual medley (2:00.37).
Other individual winners for Yale were Caroline Riggs in the 1000 freestyle (9:54.97), Vivian Weng in the 200 freestyle (1:49.33), Quinn Murphy in the 100 backstroke (55.27), Jessey Li in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.64) and Lilly Derivaux in the 500 freestyle (4:50.43).
The Bulldogs also captured the 200 medley relay,
In the diving, Paige Lai (323.5) won the 3-meter event, and Hayden Henderson (293.03) was the winner in the 1-meter.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The first home meet of the season was quite a success for the Yale men’s swimming and diving team. The Bulldogs defeated Cornell 171-129.
Deniel Nankov and Charlie Egeland were both double winners for Yale. Nankov captured the 100 (43.63) and 200 (1:37.00) freestyles, while Egeland won the 100 (53.58) and 200 (1:56.82) breaststrokes.
Other winners for the Bulldogs were Konstantinos Zachariadis in the 1000 freestyle (9:09.72), Marcus Hodgson in the 50 freestyle (20.48) and Alexander Hazlett in the 200 IM (1:48.06).
Yale also won the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
In diving, Jean Paul Ditto (372.83) won the 3-meter event, and Nicholas Chau (326.25) captured the 1-meter.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Cornell men’s swimming and diving team earned five event wins against Yale but fell to the Bulldogs, 171-129, on Monday from Kiphuth Exhibition Pool. Alongside its five wins, Cornell had podium finishes in all 16 events.
Junior Joseph Gurski picked up where he left off after a strong fall season, taking home two of Cornell’s five victories in the 100 (47.88) and 200-Butterfly (1:45.28). The 200 was also the lone podium sweep on the day for the Big Red, as Andrew Lin (1:48.99) and Jacques Grove (1:49.24) earned silver and bronze.
The underclassmen group also made some noise, as it picked up two more wins on the day for the Big Red, as freshman Julian Correa grabbed the 500-Freestyle title after putting his best split of 24.55 over the final 50 yards to pass Konstantinos Zachariadis and finish with a time of 4:26.40. Sophomore Pietro Ubertalli followed Correa’s performance by taking the 200-Backstroke title as part of a 1-2 finish with teammate Blake Conway, as 0.51 seconds separated the two teammates.
Cornell’s final win on the day came on the shoulders of Paige daCosta, as the senior led wire-to-wire to take the 100-Backstroke with a time of 48.25. It was also the final 1-2 finish on the day for the red and white, as Conway earned silver by touching the wall with a time of 48.71.
On the relay side, the Big Red earned spots on the podium in both events, as Logan Holt, Sebastian Wolff, Gurski, and Will Taner earned silver in the 200-Medley, finishing almost two seconds ahead of Yale’s B-team with a final time of 1:27.96. To close out the meet, Cornell went 2-3 in the 400-Freestyle, as the quartet of Ubertalli, Jack Banks, daCosta, and Gurski earned the runner-up spot with a time of 2:59.80, while their Big Red counterparts of Dominic Edwards, Grove, Taner, and Lin finished less than two seconds behind with a 3:01.47.
Other notable finishes in the meet included two runner-up finishes from Wolff in the 100-Freestyle (45.12) and 200-IM (1:48.27) and freshman Connor Brown rising from fifth after 50 yards to earn silver in the 100-Breastroke (54.15). The Sammamish, Wash. native also earned second place in the 200-Breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:01.20.
Senior Matthew Warren also earned bronze in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter diving events to close out competition.
With Monday’s loss, Cornell has lost four of its last five duals against Yale, with its lone win coming via a 148-146 decision in Teagle Pool on Jan. 19, 2019.

Cornell will close out its last conference road trip of the regular season when it heads to Percy Uris Natatorium to battle Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. The Big Red will be looking to win its first dual meet against its Ivy League foes since taking down the Lions in Ithaca, 164-136, on Jan. 21, 2011.
NEW HAVEN, Conn — It was a strong final regular season conference road meet of the season for Cornell Women’s Swimming and Diving, as it earned four event victories and 11 podium finishes in a 199-101 loss to the Yale Bulldogs on Tuesday from Kiphuth Exhibition Pool.
Senior Anna Gruvberger was the star in the pool for the Big Red, as the Hinsdale, Ill. native grabbed two of Cornell’s four victories. Gruvberger’s first gold came in the 50-Freestyle, as she touched the wall at a time of 23.42 as part of a 1-2 finish with teammate Priscilla Wongso, who earned second at 23.60. It was the only event that the Big Red earned the top two positions.
Gruvberger’s winning ways transferred over to the 100-Butterfly, as she earned the top spot with a time of 54.19. Her time was less than two seconds ahead of fellow senior Emilie Boisrenoult, who earned bronze in the event at 55.49. Boisrenoult also grabbed the final solo win on the day for the Big Red, swimming a 50.38 to take the 100 freestyle title.
And like all season, Cornell’s relay teams put forward a solid effort, earning podium spots in both events. The Big Red opened Tuesday’s action with a runner-up spot in the 200-Medley, as Ming Xu, Amy Wu, Boisrenoult, and Wongso put together a 1:41.61, just under two seconds behind Yale’s B-team. Cornell also earned two of the top three spots in the 400-Freestyle relay. Wongso, Boisrenoult, Kate Li, and Gruvberger shaved 0.13 seconds off their seeded time to finish just under two seconds ahead of Yale’s A-team with a 3:22.70 to grab the top spot, while Joelle Ohr swam a strong anchor to help the quartet of Chloe Addiego, Victoria Zhang, Jungmin Yoon, and Ohr finish third in the event (3:28.41).
Other top performers on the day included a second-place finish from Marie Williams in the 200-Backstroke (2:01.79) and a 2-3 showing in the 100-Backstroke from Xu and Williams, with just .06 separating the two athletes.
With Tuesday’s loss, Cornell will have to wait until next season to seek its first head-to-head win over the Bulldogs since an 87-52 decision on Jan. 27, 1989.

Cornell will return to Teagle Pool for the final time this season when it hosts the Brown Bears on Friday, Jan. 19 at 5 p.m. It will also be a celebration for Emilie Boisrenoult, Anna Gruvberger, Joelle Ohr, Angelica Sih, Olivia Sutter, Marie Williams, Priscilla Wongso, and Amy Wu, as each will be recognized for senior day.
