PRESS RELEASE – WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE WOMEN

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Milwaukee women’s swimming team swept all 14 events in the final dual meet of the regular season against UW-Stevens Point on Friday, Jan. 31, in Stevens Point, Wis.

The Panthers topped the Pointers, 205-54.

Milwaukee first took the top-three spots in the 200 medley relay. The Panther freshmen of Molly MelandBri ZablockiHannah Pozezinski, and Kelen McDaniels led the way to finish first with a time of 1:51.02.

Swimming the 1000 free for the first time in her career, Natalie Sepic also claimed a win in the event in 10:56.07 while Sydney Dahl finished second in 11:01.95.

Bri Zablocki snuck ahead to out-touch UWSP in the 200 free for first place with a time of 1:59.74.

In both the 100 and 200 back, the Panthers grabbed the top-four spots. Leading the way in the 100 back was Riley Melendy in 1:00.45 while Giulia Guerra-Montes came next (1:00.96) followed by Alicia Beam for third (1:02.83) and Paige Murphy for fourth (1:03.02).

In the 200 back, Amber Secrist touched the wall first (2:11.00) with Hannah Pozezinski (2:13.34), Mia Piljevic (2:16.43), and Paige Murphy (2:17.35) claiming the next three spots.

The breaststroke duo of Angela Kordik (1:12.18) and Andrea Bellart (1:12.36) went 1-2 in the 100 breast and then again in the 200 breast with Bellart touching first in 2:37.66 and Kordik in second in 2:41.62.

The Panthers then took the top-three spots in the 200 fly, led by Bella Passamani with a time of 2:13.43 for first, Brianna Homontowski for second (2:14.38) and Madeline Worgull for third (2:18.04).

Passamani also led the pool in the 500 free in 5:19.79 with Worgull shortly after in 5:25.17 for second place.

Sprinting to the top-three spots in the 50 free were Kelen McDaniels (24.78) for first, Molly Meland (25.30) in second, and Natalie Hey (25.34) for third.

Meland (55.45) and Hey (55.87) jumped right back in for a quick turnaround as they both then raced in the 100 free. But that didn’t slow either of them down as they touched the wall first and second respectively.

In the next two events, Milwaukee grabbed the top-four spots.

In the 100 fly, McDaniels led the way in 1:01.08 for first place while Pozezinski finished second (1:01.21), Homontowski took third (1:01.56) and Sepic picked up fourth (1:02.18).

Then in the 200 IM, Zablocki touched first in 2:14.23 with Guerra-Montes (2:14.65) and Melendy (2:14.95) just after for second and third and Meghan Jagdfeld claimed fourth in 2:19.06.

Closing out the night of competition and rounding out the full sweep was the winning 200 free relay team of McDaniels, Meland, Hey, and Hutchins with a time of 1:41.04.

Milwaukee’s next stop is Auburn Hills, Mich. for the 2020 Horizon League Championships starting on Wednesday, Feb. 19, through Saturday, Feb. 22. This year the league meet will be hosted by Oakland.

PRESS RELEASE – WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE MEN

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Milwaukee men’s swimming team topped UW-Stevens Point to end the regular season of competition on Friday, Jan. 31, in Stevens Point, Wis.

The Panthers outscored the Pointers 140 116.

Dane Van Allen picked up the first event win for the Panthers in the 1000 free with a time of 9:50.68.

Milwaukee then took the top-three spots in the 200 free led by Jack Garcia for first (1:45.17), Jacob Fase in second (1:46.00) and Mason Schoof for third (1:46.14).

Patrick Kelley (53.26) and Bailey Bodart (54.46) finished 1-2 in the 100 back while John Ruan (21.95) and Danny Larson (22.02) also went 1-2 in the 50 free.

Colin Duffy grabbed another event win in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.15 with Schoof (4:52.50) and Fase (4:55.97) not far behind to take second and third respectively.

Jacob Weber out-touched UWSP by seven-hundredths of a second to claim another Panther win in the 100 fly in 52.01 before picking up a second-place finish in the 200 fly (1:56.66).

The 200 free relay team of Ruan, Ryan Hakes, Larson, and Bodart rounded out the event wins on the day with a time of 1:26.00.

Milwaukee had many additional top finishes including a second-place finish for the squad of Ben Huynh, Fase, Ruan, and Bodart in the 200 medley relay.

Daniel Jablonski took home to second-place finishes in both the 100 breast (1:00.57) and 200 breast (2:14.19).

Jonathan Kollen grabbed a second-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 48.22 while Conrad Farrell claimed second in the 200 back (1:58.66) and Schoof finished second in the 200 IM (2:00.76).

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men and women’s swimming and diving teams fell short in their dual meet against Milwaukee on Friday. The men ended with a score of 140-116 and the women ended with a score of 54-205.

William Buhler (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) topped the 100-breaststroke with a time of 58.59. Ivan Newham (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) followed in third place with a time of 1:02.71.

Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton) finished first in the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:56.45. Joe Jensen (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) finished in third place with a time of 1:59.21. Aegerter also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.92.

Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.19. Payton Kilian (Coon Rapids, Minn./Spring Lake Park) followed in third place with a time of 48.23. Young also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.44.

Alec Jeffers (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.19.

The relay team of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Buhler, Aegerter and Payton Kilian (Coon Rapids, Minn./Spring Lake Park) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.82.

Larsen and Ryan McPherson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Tartan) went second and third in the 100-yard butterfly, respectively, with times of 52.09 and 52.31.

The relay team of Kilian, Aegerter, Matthew Inserra (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and Will Lennertz (Muskego, Wis./Franklin) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time 1:27.75.

Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) and Haley Dees (Normal, Ill./West) finished second and third in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively, with times of 1:59.87 and 2:02.92.

The relay team of Maggie Liska (North St. Paul, Minn./Mahtomedi)Kyra Goedken (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon), Dees and Sydney Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.41.

Liska finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.13.

Libby Dammen (Milton, Wis./Milton) placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:46.19.

Katie Koehler (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:05.45. Koehler also finished third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.17.

The relay team of Kaylee Benson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River)Maddie Taylor (Rockford, Ill./East), Goedken and Liska finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.10.

The Pointers are next in action at the WIAC Championship on February 13 to February 15 in Brown Deer, Wis.
