Watch: Cody Miller Gives Emotional Interview Post 100 Breast Bronze

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

American Cody Miller may not have won the gold medal, but he was elated with his bronze medal performance last night in Rio. Miller, the runner-up at the Trials in June, broke his first long course American record last night to win bronze in 58.87 behind Great Britain’s Adam Peaty and South Africa’s Cameron van der Burgh. In the interview the NBC reporter starts out by saying “everyone has their Olympic dream..” and then Cody chimed in excitedly “yeah, this is mine!”. When asked to describe the moment, Miller said “so happy. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a little kid, and you know, you never really think it can happen until it happens and I just, have a lot of people to thank…”.

When asked about world record holder Adam Peaty, Miller stated “I knew he was going go out fast, and I wanted to out faster but smooth so I could come well, and I’m really happy about it, it’s an honor to swim next to him he’s a great guy and that’s a crazy fast time…y’know swimming’s getting fast it’s just…I’m just…excited.”

This interview no doubt lit up USA Swimming, even without a gold medal. The U.S. would go onto win five of the remaining six heats in the session, including a gold and smashing world record performance from Katie Ledecky, and the American men regaining the title as 400 free champions on the international stage for the first time since 2009.

With that swim, Miller will likely given the nod in the 400 medley relay final, as Kevin Cordes, the 4th place finisher, will likely swim prelim duties.

Gosh I hope your right because “Cody Miller is good for America”- we all hope to watch him swim the final in the medley relay- hopefully?

I fully expect Cody Miller has earned the breastroke swim slot in the medley relay final considering he “out-swam” Cordes in the semifinals and then he WON the USA a bronze medal and set a NEW American record in the mens 100m breast stroke in the final- whereas Kevin Cordes didn’t deliver twice- he didn’t deliver once. It is inconceivable that they would let Cordes swim both the prelim (which they should let him do) and then again in final if he swims well? To not allow the Cody who won the semifinal swim… Read more »

It’s good to see new blood in the US Olympic team get so excited to just get a medal and not be disappointed for not getting gold SO HAPPY FOR HIM!

Or the fact that he’s excited about not getting DQ’d for his four dolphin kicks off the start

Hey Snek, thats your opinion and I disagree- shouldn’t we focus on how well Miller did, how he won the only medal in the event for the USA, how he set the American record in the final, how he won the best pole position in the semi’s and brought home both coin and a record… and talk facts like that vs your opinion- it was noted on live stream that several swimmers based on the underwater camera shown after had multiple dolphin kicks so good luck with that…Cody wasn’t DQ’d and there is no instant replay or underwater official so not buying it.
