Utah Hires Herbie Behm as Assitant Coach

The University of Utah has a new addition to its staff after bringing on Herbie Behm as their assistant coach. Behm will join the Utes after formerly working with Phoenix Swim Club in Arizona, where he coached multiple elite athletes to qualifications for big meets, including Pan Ams, U.S. Olympic Trials, and the Olympics. While working with the club, he was also named to the U.S. National Team coaching staff.

Behm has a wealth of experience to bring to the table not only due to his experience with elite athletes, but also because of the success he had in his own swimming career. He was previously a National Age Group record holder and state champion in high school, boasting a time of 19.84 in the 50 free. In the following years, Behm was a Division 1 NCAA swimmer, first at Tennessee before finishing his career at Arizona State University, where he graduated with his B.A. in Psychology.

When he teams up with the Utes this season, Behm will be joining the returning 6th place finishers at the Pac-12 Championships on both the men’s and women’s sides. The Utes also had 3 men and 3 women qualify for the 2016 NCAA Championships, including returners Stina Colleou and Genevieve Robertson, who will swim their senior and sophomore seasons, respectively, in 2016-17.
