Day 1 Highlights

LOS ANGELES — Following up on her victory against Harvard on the 1-meter, Stanford women’s diver Carolina Sculti was victorious in the event on day one of the Bruin Diving Invite, Friday.
Daria Lenz was second to give the Cardinal a 1-2 finish on the day. Sculti achieved a score of 625.70, and was followed by Lenz’s 575.20.
Freshman Maria Papworth continued her impressive career start with a sixth-place finish (525.60). Fellow freshman Lauren Burch scored a 488.05, good for 13th.
Stanford will continue the Bruin Diving Invitational tomorrow.

Trojan freshman Sean Wang won men’s 3-meter while junior Nike Agunbiade took third on women’s 1-meter to highlight USC’s efforts on the opening day of the Bruin Diving Invitational on Friday (Jan. 14) in Westwood.

Wang finished with 819.50, 383.60 coming from prelims. Wang, who remains unbeaten on 3-meter this season, claimed the event with a 24-point margin of victory.

Junior All-American George Korovin finished sixth on 3-meter with 665.05, 361.25 coming from prelims.

Agunbiade led the Women of Troy with 551.15 points for third on 1-meter.  Freshman Grace Lee was ninth with 510.60 (250.05 coming from prelims).

Action continues tomorrow with men’s platform and women’s 3-meter at 10:30 a.m., prelims will be followed immediately by finals.

Day 2 Highlights

LOS ANGELES – Carolina Sculti has made a habit of winning to start the new year.

Sculti won her third event of the week, and second of the Bruin Diving Invite, after winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 747.95, Saturday. On Friday, the senior also won the 1-meter to lead a 1-2 Cardinal finish in the
event. Sculti was followed by freshman Maria Papworth in second with a score of 707.10 to give Stanford a 1-2 finish in both events at the Bruin Diving Invitational.

Fellow freshman Lauren Burch finished fourth (649.30) and Daria Lenz finished 10th (594.70) to put all four Cardinal divers competing this weekend in the top 10.

The Bruin Diving Invite will conclude tomorrow on the platform.

USC divers were also in action at the Bruin Diving Invitational Saturday. Trojan George Korovin took first on men’s platform with a combined 682.40, 311.45 coming from prelims.

Junior All-American Nike Agunbiade led the Women of Troy on 3-meter, taking eighth with 597.35. She was one of four Trojans to make the 3-meter final with Maddie Huitt finishing 10th (585.80), Farrah Volpintesta (552.40) settling in at 14th and freshman Grace Lee (529.85) rounding out the top-15.

Day 3 Highlights

Junior Nike Agunbiade (platform) and freshman Sean Wang (1-meter) each posted wins to lead the USC diving squad during their final day at the Bruin Invitational in Westwood on Sunday (Jan. 16).

After capturing the men’s 3-meter competition on Friday, Wang returned to complete the springboard event sweep with the win on 1-meter. He finished the day with 745.20, 353.60 coming from prelims.

Joining Wang in the finals was All-American George Korovin who finished the day third in the men’s 1-meter competition, accumulating 670.00, 297.65 coming from prelims.

Junior Agunbade secured the win on women’s platform with a total of 610.50. The 2021 Pac-12 3-meter champion entered the finals with the top score, accumulating 307.30 points during prelims.

Sophomore Maddie Huitt (525.40) and freshman Grace Lee (504.75) also finished in the top-ten, coming in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Six USC divers have already posted NCAA qualifying scores this season, with Wang (3-meter, 1-meter), Korovin (platform, 3-meter), Agunbiade (1-meter, 3-meter, platform), Lee (platform), Savannah Stocker (3-meter) and Huitt (3-meter, platform) leading the Trojan diving squad. In a little over a month, they will travel to Federal Way, Washington to compete in the Pac-12 championships.
