University of Indianapolis’ Head Coach Kinkead Announces Retirement

The University of Indianapolis (UIndy) has just announced the retirement of head swimming and diving coach Gary Kinkead.  As one of the longest tenured coaches in UIndy history, Kinkead has headed up the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs for an astounding 21 years.

The UIndy Reflector quoted Kinkead as saying, “I want my legacy of 21 years to go forward.  I want to watch this program grow; I want to watch this program get better.  I want to be proud of what I’ve established, and I want to see the academics continue in the same vein.”

Kinkead’s leadership resulted in a program record 6th-place showing by the women’s squad at the 2007 NCAA Division II Championships.  He can also lay claim to 11 national champions, as well 13 Academic-Americans under his tutelage.

Kinkead’s future will include moving to Canada and working with the American College Connection recruiting company, helping prospective student-athletes in the recruiting process.

A national search is underway for a replacement and will be announced by UIndy in the near future.

Best Wishes to Coach Kinkead. I had the pleasure of speaking at length with him during my son’s recruiting process. His honesty and devotion to building complete men and women in and out of the pool will very difficult to replace

Gary has been an outstanding coach and mentor for a lot of young people over the years and we are really excited to have him join American College Connection. He has a passion for helping kids just like everyone else in our company. He will be working directly with the swimmers, their parents and the college coaches.
