Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
New York freestyler Carter Leach will spend the next four years down south as he takes his talents to the University of Texas Permian Basin.
Leach is a soon-to-be graduate of Clarence High School and an athlete for Clarence Swim Club. The sprint specialist had this to say about his next chapter:
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue both my academic and athletic journey at the University of Texas Permian Basin, where I will be swimming on their Division II swim team. I want to express my deepest gratitude to my family, friends, and coaches who have supported and believed in me every step of the way. A special thanks to Coach Brian and Coach Leo for this incredible opportunity. I’m excited for what the next four years will bring. And lastly all thanks to God
Let’s go Falcons!”
Leach has enjoyed a decorated high school swimming career, culminating with a very strong senior states. That meet saw him score personal bests in two of his strongest events: the 200 free (1:45.91) and 100 free (47.87). This marks a two second drop of the previous year in the 200 and over one second in the 100. In those same events earlier in the 2026 season, he earned runner-up at the NYSPHSAA Section VI Class A Championships.
Leach’s swimming success also extends to the club sphere. Some of his recent highlights include representing Niagara Swimming at the 2025 Long Course Eastern Zone Championships and partaking in the 2026 Buffalo Sectionals meet.
Leach’s Best Times (SCY)
- 200 free: 1:45.91
- 100 free: 47.87
- 50 free: 22.15
- 100 fly: 54.49
In the 200 free, Leach’s best high school time puts him 5th among Falcon men from this season, and all four men will be returning for at least one more year. This will give him a competitive training atmosphere in the event, led by rising sophomore Sean Greene who just dipped under 1:40 for the first time. Leach could be a 4×200 free relay contender for UTPB if he continues to improve. The Falcon men placed 5th in this event at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships and 5th overall as well.
Leach will be joining a recruiting class of seven gentlemen, and he is the only non-Texan in the publicly committed group. His in-state classmates on the team will be Caden Angelle, Nick Williams, Zach Garza, Carlos Albidrez, Tanner Antley, and Daniel Parsley.
