INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 202.66-67.33 victory over fellow Circle City resident Butler University Saturday at the Ruth Lilly Center. Prior to competition, the team honored 14 seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program and the University.
Seniors Megan Sunderman, Lillie Arps, Caroline Reinke, Hanna Burke, Elisa Funes, Megan Gregory, Celina Schmidt, Youssof Yunus, Pedro Peixoto, Jasmin Hoffmann, Reed Beaumont, Swann Plaza, Nick Quintero, and Jokubas Jankauskas were all recognized before the start of the meet.
With the men’s team shifting to an intrasquad meet after Northern Kentucky backed out, the Greyhound women went head-to-head with the crosstown Bulldogs. The Hounds played the role of top dog, dominating their way to the dual win.
The highlights came in the 100 free and 100 fly, with fresh B cuts coming in both races. Valentina Masella hung a 51.73 on the board in the 100 free, while Celina Schmidt tossed her name in the 100 fly hat with a 55.45. Megan Gregory swept the breaststroke races, while Masella tacked on a win in the 200 IM.
UIndy took care of business in the relays as well, winning both the 400 medley and 200 free relays. Dana Dominguez, Schmidt, Caprice Schlueter and Kirabo Namutebi won the former with a 3:50.34; while Hanna Burke, Elisa Funes, Jasmin Hoffmann and Caroline Reinke took the latter race in 1:34.64.
On the boards, Megan Sunderman held off Abby Sneed to win the women’s 1-meter. Freshman Donovan McMahon put up a big number to win the men’s 1-meter, racking up 346.13 points.

The Butler swim team finished competition against the UIndy Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. Butler finished with 67.33 team points while the Greyhounds finished with 202.66 team points. Butler will return to action next Sunday as the Bulldogs will host the 17th Annual Butler Invitational. Butler will also recognize its senior class before the meet with a senior day ceremony.
Swimmer of the Meet: The coaching staff chose fifth-year senior Cotter Welch as the swimmer of the meet. Cotter has suffered several injuries and undergone at least three surgeries in the last two years. Despite all these obstacles, she was determined to come back for a fifth year, with the goal of competing with the team for the entirety of the season, which required her qualifying for the BIG EAST Conference meet at the end of our season. Today, all her hard work and dedication came to fruition, as she made the BIG EAST qualifying standard in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.71! It was a truly inspiring performance for her team to witness.
