Katie Nugent, a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School and member of Irvine Novaquatics, has announced her verbal commitment to join the University of California-Santa Barbara beginning in the fall of 2020. She is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American as well as a three time NISCA All-American.

A breaststroke specialist, last spring Nugent competed at the California CIF State Championship where she finished ninth in the 100 breast (1:02.73) and eighteenth in the 200 IM (2:05.50). At the Speedo Winter Junior Championships-West she raced in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, finishing 22nd in the 200 breast in a time of 2:16.88.

Nugent will be joining a UC-Santa Barbara team that finished third at last years MPSF Swim and Diving Championships. With her best times, she would have scored in the A-final of the 100 breast, as well as narrowly missing the A-final in the 200 breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
