- Recaps:
The top tier of nations remained intact on the overall swimming medal table through day five of the 2025 European Junior Championships.
That means entering the final day of competition, Great Britain is the nation to beat, owning 13 medals comprised of 5 golds, 5 silvers and 3 bronze.
Italy is within reach, amassing 12 medals, however, its gold count falls 2 shy at 3. Spain is also in the mix, as are Lithuania and Turkey.
At the 2024 European Junior Championships, Italy found itself atop the medal table so it will need to produce some special swims to repeat as team champions.
Between last year and this year, Hungary has fallen off the hardest, finishing as runner-up in 2024 but ranking just 8th heading into the last day of action.
We have a host of finals on day six’s agenda, which could swing the medals in either direction.
16-year-old Tajus Juska and University of Virginia commit Smilte Plytnykaite of Lithuania are prime candidates to give their nation potential golds in the boys’ 100m free and girls’ 100m breast while Daniele del Signore has a chance to repeat as boys’ 200m backstroke victor for Italy.
But Great Britain is hunting more hardware in the form of Filip Nowacki in the boys’ 100m breast as well as Dean Fearn in the boys’ 100m fly.
We’ll keep an eye on how things unfold in Slovakia as we watch rising stars try to close out the competition with big wins.

I think that Fearn drops the 100 back tonight and focuses on the relay and 50 fly
