TERRE HAUTE – The Terre Haute Torpedoes board of directors announces Randy Jensen as the head coach after conducting a national search. Jensen is set to lead Indiana’s seventh largest swim club effective immediately.
“We are exited about Randy being our head coach,” said Joel Lauritzen, Torpedoes vice president. “Jensen is an amazing coach who brings college coaching experience and will take our team to the next level.”

Jensen served as the interim head coach this past year after Jeff Thompson left the club for a position in Pennsylvania. Jensen has also been involved with the Vigo County Schools Aquatic Center project, which will open this fall and be the home pool of the Torpedoes.

“I am looking forward to the challenges that coaching the Torpedoes presents and the opportunity to impact the kids and all the families that are involved in the program.” Jensen said.

Jensen was the inaugural head coach of Rose Hulman Institute of Technology where he served as head coach for 11 years. During the tenure, Jensen led the team to a 26th place finish at the 1999 NCAA Championships while coaching Rose Hulman’s first swimming NCAA All-American in the same year.

Jensen spent 14 years as the boy’s head swim coach at Terre Haute North High School and seven years as the Terre Haute North High School girl’s head swim coach. Jensen also spent three years teaching and coaching boys swimming and boys and girls cross country at Hamilton Southeastern High School in Fishers.

“Randy offers not only years of competitive swimming experience but a well good knowledge of the swimming tradition of Terre Haute,” said Tony Young, sport development director of Indiana Swimming. “Randy embodies a true professional that leads our athletes – not only in Terre Haute, but across the state. Randy is a quality coach and a quality person.”

Jensen will oversee all aspects of the swim club which has over 250 swimmers from Indiana and Illinois. He has taught at Terre Haute North High School for the past 30 years and will continue as the chair of the physical education department. Jensen has a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Ball State University and a master’s of science degree in social studies education from Indiana State University.
