St. Francis Places Second at Northeast Catholic Invite

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team finished second out of six teams this weekend at the Northeast Catholic Invite, hosted by Boston College. The Red Flash totaled 640 team points, topped only by the Eagles’ 902, and just ahead of Providence’s 632 points.

Sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) captured two freestyle events. Lafferty took first place, out of 44 swimmers, in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.96. Lafferty also won the 100-yard Freestyle, with a pace of 53.50, to top the field of 45 swimmers. The sophomore also recorded a fifth place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 5:17.65.

Senior Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) earned a win in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a pace of 1:07.30, to lead the field of 34. Rogers also claimed third place finishes in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 24.75, and 100-yard Butterfly, with a time of 59.48.

Emma Karell (Norrtlje, Sweden/Tby Swim Club) was the top finisher in the 200-yard Butterfly, with a pace of 2:11.99, to lead the field of 27 swimmers. The sophomore also placed second in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:42.81.

Junior Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) earned a pair of top five finishes, placing second in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a mark of 24.69, and fifth in the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 54.98. Senior Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) also had two top five finishes. Dieterich recorded a time of 1:01.65 to place third in the 100-yard Backstroke and a pace of 2:13.58 to place fifth in the 200-yard Backstroke.

Sophomore Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic) finished third in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:30.93 and 10th in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a pace of 1:11.19. FreshmanJessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley) placed fourth in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 1:09.89, to give the Red Flash three top five finishers in that event. Crumm also placed eighth in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a pace of 2:35.44.

The Red Flash won two relay events. Lafferty, Kish, Reilly and Rogers combined for a time of 1:39.92 in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay to lead the pack of 15 teams. Dieterich, Paige McLean(Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary), Reilly and Rogers claimed the 200-yard Medley Relay with a pace of 1:50.74 to top the 19-team field.

Karell, Lafferty, McLean and Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished second in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:41.16. Crumm, Dieterich, Karell and Tiberino combined to place third in the 400-yard Medley Relay, finishing the race in 4:07.12.

Saint Francis returns to action next weekend as they compete against NEC opponent Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday, October 24 at 1 p.m.
