Sam Short swam to his 3rd Pro Series record of the week as he touched in a 3:43.49 to win the men’s 400 free. That broke the previous record of a 3:43.55 set back in 2016 by Sun Yang.
Short’s best time sits at a 3:40.68 which he swam at the 2023 World Championships to win gold. As seen below, Short was off his best time on all of his 50 splits tonight compared to his lifetime best.

With his swim tonight, Short moves up to sit at #2 in the world so far this season. He previously sat at #6 with a 3:45.88 that he swam back in December at the 2025 Queensland Championships. Short notably won silver in the 400 free at the 2025 World Championships with a 3:42.37.

why doesn’t zhang zhanshuo get more hype, he has been and is the real deal. also equivalent talent to Luca, especially with his 4 IM in 2023, AND luca has yet to realize the LC potential and match the 3:42 (albeit he’s a year or too behind and almost definitely will).
