Rio 2016 Day 7 Scratch Report: Greece’s Giareni Out of 50 Free

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

On day 7 of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, we’ll see swimmers compete in the women’s 50 free and the men’s 1500 free. This morning’s prelims will also feature the 4×100 medley relay prelims for both the men and women.

On the women’s side, Greece’s Theodora Giareni has scratched out of the women’s 50 free after initially entering the event with a seed time of 25.18. SwimSwam reported earlier this week that Giareni was unofficially named as the swimmer who had been sent home early from Rio after failing a doping control test.

Giareni was seeded 36th in the 50 free, and wasn’t entered in any other races. She came to Rio with the Greek squad as a National Record holder for a pair of relays and the SCM 100 IM.

Other than Giareni, there were no scratches for day 7 prelims. This morning’s prelims will be the last preliminary session of the 2016 Olympic Games.
