Poll Results: How Many World Records Will Be Broken in Shanghai?

After looking at our top 10 World Records that might go down in Shanghai, and later our list of 5 World Records that have no chance of being broken, we let our readers weigh in on their thoughts about how many World Records will be broken at the World Championships.

PS, don’t you wish swimming had the ability to create a moment as cool as track’s World Record/squat picture?

We set the over/under at 3.5 records, and an overwhelming majority of our readers believe that three or fewer records will be broken in Shanghai, though most believe that at least one record will go down.

Results:

  • Fewer than 3.5 (95 votes, 55.5%)
  • More than 3.5 (58 votes, 33.9%)
  • None (18 votes, 10.5%)

When combining results, this means that roughly two-thirds of our readers believe that fewer than 3.5 (including those who voted “none”) will go down.

Interestingly, our most active readers who regularly comment on our posts, believed even more strongly that fewer than 3.5 records would go down (by a tally of 28-10, or roughly 74%). Only one of our commenters voted that they thought no World Records would go down.

Thanks for voting, and be sure to check out our new poll question about the Cielo doping case! Vote soon, that one will only be up until tomorrow morning!
