Penn State Pays Out $18.4 Million In Institutional NIL Revenue Share, None Went To Swim/Dive

Penn State athletics recorded $18.4 million in institutional name, image, and likeness (NIL) share in fiscal year 2025, according to its most recent fiscal year report.

Over 70% of institutional NIL revenue sharing went to football as football reported $13.3 million in institutional NIL revenue share. Penn State’s football program finished 13-3 in fall 2024, and made it to the College Football Playoff Semifinal after defeating SMU 38-10 at home in the first round and Boise State 31-14 on a neutral site in the quarterfinal. The team went on to fall 24-27 to Notre Dame in the semifinal.

Men’s basketball recorded the 2nd largest institutional NIL revenue share with just over $3 million going to the program. The men’s basketball program finished the 2024-2025 season with a 16-15 record, including a 6-14 record in the Big Ten resulting. Their Big Ten record was 2nd to last in the conference, resulting in them not qualifying for the Big Ten Tournament.

The women’s volleyball program notably won the fall 2024 NCAA championship, defeating Louisville in the National Championship game. Despite winning the NCAA title, the volleyball program only paid out $10,000 in NIL revenue share.

The men’s wrestling program also captured an NCAA title during fiscal year 2025. Wrestling paid over $1.4 million in NIL revenue share.

Neither the men’s or women’s swimming and diving programs had any NIL revenue share during the 2024-2025 season. The women’s program finished 12th out of 14 teams at the 2025 Big Ten Championships while the men’s program was 9th out of 9 teams. Neither team sent any competitors to the 2025 NCAA Championships.

No money for an awful program with historically bad coaching in a subpar facility? They don’t deserve a dime! Forget about it!

PSU program will be cut. Writing has been on the wall for years.

PSU Swimming is nowhere. Always has been. The teams do not deserve more money. Stop crying about the facility. PA. is well populated and overall, HS Swimming and Diving is quite good. Recruit exclusively in state, including walk ons. Develop them and sell the brand everyone knows. Accomplish something first, and then see what happens. Emphasize the dual meets, attain winning records, and then see what occurs.

Pennsylvania has a massive swimming community and the surrounding states are also some of the largest LSCs in the country. I don’t understand how they haven’t been able to recruit out of that base all of these years. Bad coaching choices and just a completely stagnant program for decades, it’s a pure shame

PSU’s credibility with recruits is going to take a long time to recover from being the school that lied about getting a new 50 meter pool for years.

I mean, look at the balance sheet, how could the AD justify putting more money into swimming with no financial returns?

Why would you ever give a bottom feeder swim team a dime of rev share money

Kicking off a fundraiser with private donors to help the swim program? Much more understandable and attainable

PSU volleyball is the team that got screwed here

Big shocker. OSU and WISC outspent Penn State considerably and finished considerably higher in the conference (and nationally). And that Penn State pool compared to the palaces at OSU and WISC? Not good.
