Oakville Aquatics’ Nicholls, Fabugais-Inaba Duel in the Pool

At the recent Brad Townsend Fall Classic Swim Meet at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, Oakville Aquatic Club held an exciting 50M Free Challenge race between OAK Coach, Laura Nicholls and one of OAK’s top senior swimmers, Alexandra Fabugais-Inaba to help raise money for the OAK Angel Fund and OAK 2016 Olympic Trials Fund.

Coach Laura who is a two times Olympian (Atlanta and Sydney) and holds an impressive 30 international medals and 17 national titles returned to the pool 10 years after her last race in 2005 after accepting the challenge from Alexandra.

The event was a sell-out and was cheered on by fellow swimmers and their families watching Alexandra win a thrilling race with a time of 27.90 and Laura touching the wall with 28.54.

Over $3,000 was raised and will be split between the Oak Angel Fund and the 2016 Olympic Trials Fund. The Angel Fund helps OAK swim families who may occasionally encounter short term difficulty in meeting their OAK financial obligations and the Fund’s purpose is to help those families get through a difficult time by providing temporary support.

The 2016 Olympic Trials Fund aims to help swimmers with the many extra costs incurred as they dedicate themselves to reaching their goal of competing in the Olympics.

Sean Baker, Head Coach said “The Oakville Aquatic Club will once again be vying for spots in the 2016 Olympic team. The club has won two of the last three Summer
National Championships and has consistently placed swimmers on every Youth/Junior or Senior National team in the last 5 years.”
