North Carolina High School State Finalist Catherine Walsh Commits to Catholic University

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Catherine Walsh, a senior swimmer from Huntersville, North Carolina, has announced her intent to swim for Catholic University for 2023.

“I am so beyond thrilled to finally announce my commitment to swim and study at Catholic University! Huge shoutout to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for always pushing me to be my best. I am so excited for the new chapter and the next 4, go cardinals!!”

During the high school swim season, Walsh swims for Christ the King Catholic High School. At the 2022 North Carolina High School State Championship, she was an ‘A’ finalist in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM. Her 100 back time of 1:02.68 was good for a 5th place finish, while her 2:22.01 showing in the 200 IM was good for seventh.

Walsh swims year round as a member of SwimMAC Carolina. Competing at the 2023 North Carolina Senior State Championships this past February, her highest finish came in the 100 breaststroke, where Walsh swam a season-best of 1:12.77 to place 77th.

Top Times (SCY):

  • 100 back – 1:00.47
  • 200 back – 2:12.15
  • 200 breast – 2:34.66
  • 200 IM – 2:16.08

The Catholic University women were able to secure a victory at this year’s Landmark Conference Championships, winning by 29 points over runners-up University of Scranton. Catholic’s efforts were led by freshman Katie Herman, who finished 1st in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles. All three of Herman’s individual swims were personal bests by a significant margin.

Walsh would have had several ‘A’ finals swims at the 2023 Landmark Championships with her current times. Walsh’s 100 back time of 1:00.47 would have gotten 6th at the meet, while her 200 back would have put her in 4th. In the 200 IM and 200 breast, Walsh would have finished 9th and 8th, respectively.

The 2023 women’s recruiting class for Catholic University includes Tara Wiarda, Annie Zeigler, Izzy Giannetto, and Walsh. Wiarda is an outstanding catch for Catholic University, and has the potential to put them on the board at Division III NCAAs next year. Wiarda’s 200 backstroke time of 2:01.54 would have placed 9th at this year’s NCAA Championships.
