Mount St. Mary’s Women Win 21st Straight Dual Against VMI, Keydet Men Top Mountaineers

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 11, 2025) – Mount St. Mary’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving faced off against the visiting VMI Keydets in Emmitsburg on Saturday, with the men losing 221-71 and the women winning 164-129. With their win, the women’s team notched their 21st win in a row against the Virginia Military Institute, a streak that stretches back to 2006.

The relay team of Hanna AggenEmily MyersEve Phillips, and Madison Murphy got the day started for the team, winning the women’s 200-meter medley relay with a time of 2:01.09. Aggen followed up her part in the relay victory with a first placed finish in the women’s 100-meter backstroke, posting an excellent time of 1:05.49 in the event. Phillips posted a time of 27.55 in the women’s 50-meter freestyle, winning the event for the Mountaineers. Lauren Wetzel won the women’s 200-meter intermediate race with a time of 2:30.02. And Myers placed first, winning the women’s 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:49.20. Julie Uecker placed fourth in the women’s 1-meter diving event, posting a score of 140.85.

On the men’s side of the meet, Adam Jozsa got the day started for the Mountaineers, winning the men’s 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:04.49. Todor Gospodinov got his first individual win as a Mountaineer, winning the men’s 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:09.50. And the team of Gospodinov, Parker KoenigAustin Toland, and Lucas Hancock placed a close second place in the men’s 200-meter freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:34.60, a tenth of a second off the lead.

EMMITSBURG, Md. – VMI Women’s Swimming & Diving had plenty of positives to look back on in a hard-fought loss to Mount St. Mary’s at ARCC Swimming Pool on Saturday.

Despite the 164-129 defeat, the Keydets had five first-place finishers and nine short-course meter records snapped.

Kicking off the evening was sophomore Isabelle Haer, who took first in the one-meter dive with a score of 198.65. Sophomore Ollie Hobbs (171.30) and freshman Caitlin Bernard (151.20) followed in second and third place, respectively.

Sophomore Mackenzie Byrne shattered a pair of short-course meter records, taking first place in the 100 Free (1:01.09) and second place in the 50 Free (27.73). Also breaking two records was freshman Lacy Delzell, who claimed first in the 200 Back (2:24.19) and second in the 100 Back (1:07.49).

Freshman Avery Shuping scored first in the 800 Free (9:52.09), breaking the short-course record, with freshman Carissa Witte earning second in the 200 Fly (2:29.15) to capture another record. Witte would later snag first place in the 100 Fly (1:07.59).

In the relays, VMI had a pair of relay squads earn second place and break a short-course record, including the 200 Free Relay team of Byrne, Delzell, Noelle Tong, and Valeria Paulson (1:51.09) and the 200 Medley Relay team of Delzell, Byrne, Witte, and Parker Belle Fogle (2:04.16).

EMMITSBURG, Md. – VMI Men’s Swimming & Diving picked up its first win of the season against Mount St. Mary’s at ARCC Swimming Pool on Saturday.

The Keydets earned a dominating 221-71 victory over the Mountaineers, breaking 13 short-course meter records and 13 first-place marks.

Highlighting VMI’s evening was freshman Hudson Weinhagen, who destroyed a 13-year Rat (freshman) record in the second round of one-meter dives. Weinhagen scored 273.90 points in the one-meter, claiming first place. This is the fourth-highest score in the league.

Sophomore Jack Mills had himself a day, breaking three short-course meter records and tallying three first-place finishes in the 200 Fly (2:07.07), 100 Free (51.97), and 200 IM (2:10.42). Sophomore Stephen Russell shattered a pair of similar records, earning first in the 200 Free (1:55.83) and 400 Free (4:08.36).

Also claiming first place in record-breaking fashion were sophomore Caleb Wolf in the 800 Free (8:54.52), junior Sam Castle in the 100 Back (57.97), freshman Ian Lutz in the 50 Free (23.40), and junior Matthew Picard in the 100 Fly (56.92).

Sophomore Sam Calder snapped a short-course meter record in the 200 Back (2:14.00) en route to second place, while junior Austin Reeder collected second in the 100 Breast in record time (1:04.71).

On the boards, senior Lane Jones brought home the gold in the first round of the one-meter, recording 264.05 points.

In the relays, VMI picked up a pair of victories and record-breaking marks, with the 200 Free Relay squad of Lutz, Calder, Castle, and Picard (1:34.50) and the 200 Medley Relay team of Castle, Tucker, Lutz, and Picard (1:43.16).
