SwimSwam has great coverage of the Olympics! I wish that they were somehow in charge of the decisions by NBC.

MP went 48.1 in at 2010 Pan Pacs…after a painful slow 4-IM. He’s in… Wonder if he’ll lead-off though, the way he always does.

LOL at this article from Bleacher Report:

“On the women’s side, teen phenom Missy Franklin kicked off the women’s 4×100 meter freestyle relay with a first-leg lead, which the pair of Lia Neal and Allison Schmitt dropped in the final two legs.

The women finished with a disappointing bronze (.45 seconds out of silver), delaying Franklin’s eventual first gold.”

It seems that only in America would achieving an Olympic medal and breaking a National record in the process be frowned upon as “disappointing”…

LOL indeed.

The only surprising result about this 4×100 free is not that USA finished bronze, but it’s that Australia beat Netherlands.

Coming into London, the aggregate time of four fastest australians is actually faster than the americans’.

And among the three countries, Australia has the most depth.

As I said few months back, although Netherlands is prohibitive favorite, its depth is very shaky and if one of their swimmers does not perform, they can say goodbye to gold. And Inge Dekker did not perform.

kinda reminds me of usa 2004 4×100 free, where crocker absolutely bombed it on the first leg with a 50.05

Well, yes and no.

Even if they knew Inge Dekker was below form, the dutch could not have done anything about it, as they didn’t have any other option. Hinkelien Schreuder? she’s even slower than below par Dekker.

Meanwhile, The USA had option no to swim Crocker.
But I digress, I don’t want to start another endless debates about crocker vs. Hall jr 🙂

Dekker had the 100 fly just prior-no ? She might be more the drop dead sprinter than Coutts who bounced back with a years best.

Also Femke has been slower this year than her breakout 2011.

Still Yolane is a relay gold medallist . Noone can say she sucks at it now .:)

yes, dekker is more drop dead sprinter. But she scratched 100 fly, so she should have been even more fresh than Coutts.
Dekker spin her wheels too fast in the first 50, and she paid in the second 50.

Umm.. Mel,
Missy’s challenge in 200 back only comes from Beisel?

Well, I guess Hocking and Zueva can just go home now.

yeah….we’re seeing if the BR relationship can work since their #4 on Alexa in sports. They want to keep it general & US-based when possible & under 50 secs. Doesn’t always work with the SwimSwam crowd, re: deep swim knowledge.

BTW…swimswam’s growth is the international audience. Braden/Garrett/Davis get this, always working to bring as much international news as possible.
