Mason Hodge Commits to In-State Wheaton College (IL) beginning this Fall

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Mason Hodge from Aurora, Illinois has announced his commitment to swim and study at Division III Wheaton College (IL) beginning this fall.

“I am honored to share that I have committed to continue preparing for the future God has for me at Wheaton College (IL). The high standard of excellence in education at Wheaton, combined with the opportunity to compete on a tremendous swim team, are both very exciting. Thank you to my parents for all you have done to prepare me for this step in life. Also, thank you to all the educators and coaches who pushed me all these years. Roll Thunder!!!”

Hodge swims for Fox Valley Family YMCA Aqua Force out of Plano, IL. He has had substantial time drops this year alone. Prior to this year, his best times in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles were 23.09, 50.45, and 1:54.83. In March 2021 at his high school conference meet, he earned lifetime bests in the 50 (21.48) and 100 (47.09) freestyles. Both times also earned him the Illinois High School State qualifying standards. In May 2021, he also earned a new lifetime best by 7.23 seconds in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.60. More recently, this summer he also has set new long course best times. In June he set best times in the 50 (25.98) and 200 (2:08.39) freestyles, and in July he set a best time in the 100 freestyle (55.81).

Hodge graduated this spring from Oswego East High School in Oswego, IL, a suburb of Chicago. His best short course times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 21.48
  • 100 freestyle: 47.09
  • 200 freestyle: 1:47.60
  • 100 breaststroke: 1:00.38

Wheaton College (IL) is a private liberal arts college in Wheaton, IL. The school is a member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW).

This year, the conference did not hold a conference championship meet, but instead held a multi-site event and then combined results. At the 2020 CCIW Conference meet, the Wheaton men finished in 2nd place out of 7 teams. Hodge has the potential to make an impact at the conference level. His best 50 and 100 freestyle times would have placed him 4th, his 200 freestyle would have been 5th, and his 100 breaststroke would have been 8th. His 50 and 100 freestyle also would have been the highest place finishes for Wheaton at the conference meet adding the potential for him to be used on relays.

Hodge will arrive on campus this fall as a member of the class of 2025.
