Laugher returns to the top of the podium

World Cup bronze medallist Jack Laugher grabbed the gold medal in the 3m Springboard in one of the most exciting finals of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series in Windsor, Canada.

Laugher had a steady start to the final and went into the lead after his second dive and as he lined up for his Inward 3 ½ Somersaults tucked he looked confident.

China’s He Chao moved into the lead in the fourth round after scoring almost 100 points for Back 3 ½ Somersaults tucked.

It came down to who could hold their nerve in the sixth and final dive for both Laugher and Chao and it was the Brit that came out victorious.

Laugher scored 86.40 for his Back 3 ½ Somersaults to finish with 526.30 points while Chao dropped his Front 3 ½ Somersaults 1 Twist piked for 66.60 points for a final score of 521.65.

In the mixed 3m Synchro, new pair of Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley and Commonwealth Champion Alicia Blagg won bronze in their first competitive outing.

The pair have not had much time training together ahead of this competition but were in a medal position throughout the rounds.

They showed impressive synchro throughout the competition and scored their highest mark of 71.61 in their first optional dive – the Front 3 ½ Somersaults piked.

Daley and Blagg won bronze with a score of 296.31.

“We’re really happy with how it went out there today,” Blagg said. “Given that we’ve not really trained much together it was a really good performance.”

“We’ve only trained a few times together for this event so overall we’re really happy.” Daley said. “We actually can’t believe that we have a medal so we’re really pleased.”
