Latvian Swimming Federation Dismisses President Kaspars Pone

On Friday, September 16 the Latvian Swimming Federation (LPF) voted to release the President of the Federation, Kaspars Pone, from all duties.

Shortly thereafter, in another meeting on Monday, September 19th, LPF members voted for the dismissal of the entire Federation Board, composed of Chairman Kaspars Pone and Vice-Presidents Juris Ulmanis and Janis Ozolins. These decisions followed what Lativan Swimming Federation members felt were inappropriate decisions and actions made by Kaspars Pone and during his time as President of the Federation and Chairman of the Federation board.

The first meeting was attended by 21 of the 26 LPF members with voting rights, nineteen of whom decided to release Pone from all duties as President of the Federation. The second meeting was attended by 22 members, 21 of whom voted to dissolve the entire federation board.

In these meetings members also discussed and decided on amendments to the Statute of the LPF and elected a new federation board. It was determined that the federation board will consist of five people, opposed to the previous three. Aivars Platonov was elected as the new chairman of the board, and the additional four members elected were Girts Treiguts, Zelma Ozolins, Alexey Leonov and Ilva Ivaškina. In addition, LPF members unanimously decided to cancel the 2016 annual general meeting set to take on on October 3rd.
