Korstanje Sets Three Dutch Age Group Records at KNZB Challenger

16 year old Nyls Korstanje of the Netherlands set three age groups at the KNZB Challenger Eindhoven this past weekend. Korstanje broke the records in the long course 50 freestyle as well as the 50 and 100 butterfly.

In the 50 freestyle he posted a 23.19 breaking his own record of 23.26, which he set last year in a winning effort at the European Olympic Festival. Korstanje improved on his personal best in the 50 butterfly by over a second. On the weekend he posted a 24.56, his previous best of 25.87 was recorded in 2013. In the 100 butterfly he went from a 55.08 to a 54.66.

Korstanje was not the only athlete to set new age group marks at the competition. 15 year old Juri Dijkstra posted a 30.62 in the boys’ 50 breaststroke while 11 year old Luuk van Rooij put up a 35.07 in the boys’ 50 backstroke improving on his previous record of 35.11 which he swam in May.

At another competition in Drachten Marrit Steenbergen broke her own youth record in the short course 100 backstroke posting a 1:00.35 improving on the previous mark of 1:01.15 which she set in January.

Two IPC world records were broken in Eindhoven. The first record was set by Lisette Teunissen (S3) in the 100 backstroke who finished in a time of 1:44.94. The second was set by Marlou van der Kulk who posted a 2:26.41.
