KLASS Torpedoes excel at Malaysian National Age Groups 2016

KLASS Torpedoes crown 6 different individual age group champions and take 9 titles at Malaysian National Age Group Championships.

Swimmers from KLASS Torpedoes won 9 Gold, 7 Silver and 4 Bronze at the Malaysian National Age Groups 2016.

This caps a very successful season to date for the team who have returned their highest number of athletes to NAG’s and established a High Performance Squad at their 50m 10 lane facility at the Alice Smith School secondary campus, Equine Park, Taman Equine.

KLASS Torpedoes are the racing team of the Alice Smith School, a British International school in Kuala Lumpur which serves students from over 50 nationalities. In June 2015 the already successful and Champion FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) Swim team added a High Performance (HPS) squad to their training programme for local swimmers and the top school swimmers with the express aim of “placing swimmers onto junior and senior national squads”. With the results so far this season and at the MNAG’s the fruits of this vision seem to be coming to bear.

This year swimmers from KLASS Torpedoes were representing Selangor, KL, Sabah and Johor.
Coach Mr Francis Kiu (former coach Alice Smith alumni and GB sprint ace Ben Proud) says, “…this is the best ever results for my NAG career … I strongly believe someday some of you are going to compete in higher level competition like World Championship or Olympic Games.”

Programme Director, Mr Stuart Bromley adds, “…this has been a very successful meet for our growing programme. We look forward to increasingly challenging at this level in years to come. To have 4 swimmers in the top 10 nationally over 2 events is outstanding.”

“The journey continues for many in our squad with the FINA Malaysian Open next month and then the 18th ASEAN University Games in Singapore whilst our Primary school prepare to defend last years championship at the Primary FOBISIA Games in Thailand during June.
