Katie Ledecky To Kick Off Nationals-Giants Post-Season Series With Ceremonial First Pitch

Katie Ledecky will be throwing out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game this Friday to kickoff their playoff series against the San Francisco Giants according to Reach For The Wall . The Nationals are one of the top teams in post-season baseball right now, and projected by some to win the World Series, making it a huge honor to have Ledecky on the field.

Ledecky, who swims out of the Nations Capital Swim Club in Washington, had a spectacular season making her one of the most successful athletes to come out of the area. Ledecky reset world records in the 400, 800, and 1500 freestyles this summer and took home five gold medals at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships keeping her record alive of never losing an event at an international competition.

Living in Bethesda, Maryland, Ledecky is extremely close to the city of Washington, D.C. She’ll be throwing the opening pitch to start up the National League Division series at 3:07 p.m. Although the surprise wouldn’t phase her, Ledecky will be familiar with the experience as she was chosen to throw out the opening pitch at a Nationals game following her 2012 Olympic Gold, being welcomed to the stadium on September 3, 2012 as the Nationals hosted the Chicago Cubs to a 2-1 victory.

This time, there should be a larger crowd considering that it’s the post season.

The Nationals have played two series this season with the Giants, winning both of them suffering only two losses in a total of seven games. The most recent series, which was played from August 22-24th, the Nationals lost the first game 10-3, then game back to win the remaining two 6-2 and 14-6.

Katie Ledecky’s golden touch might just be what the Nationals need to win this post-season series.
