This includes teaching lifeguarding, CPR, water safety and all other required certifications.  Cover any lifeguard needs for scheduling conflicts. Assists in the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness and related pool needs. Assist in maintenance and repair of aquatics facilities and equipment. Responsible for working with the Athletics Facilities & Operations Coordinator to ensure that the pool facility is clean and in good repair.  This includes scheduling appropriate time for routine and deep cleaning as well as maintenance, both routine and preventative, of all pool systems.

 

The Aquatic Director/Assistant Swim Coach has knowledge of USA Swimming/FINA Swimming, RMAC Conference, and NCAA Swimming rules and regulations. Assists the Head Coach to organize/conduct practice sessions, recruiting student athletes, monitoring academic progress of student athletes through academic advising and referrals, and recommend athletes for awards.  The Aquatic Director/ Assistant Swim Coach assumes responsibility for enforcing training rules and monitoring the conduct of student athletes when representing Western Colorado University both on and off campus.  Ensures institutional compliance of the program by adhering to all policies and procedures of the NCAA, RMAC Conference and USA Swimming organizations.

 

In addition to excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills the Aquatic Director will set up and tear down all equipment, spectator seating, and pool deck for all swim team home meets. Operate and maintain the Colorado Timing System during all home meets. Provide information about aquatics programs to schools, community service groups and the general public.  Develop flyers, brochures, and advertisements as needed to promote aquatic programming. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of management level experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree required.

• Previous collegiate level swimmer or coaching experience as club swim coach or NCAA swimming coach 

• Valid driver’s license.  

• Water Safety Instructor Trainer, CPR/ First Aid with Red Cross AED/Oxygen Knowledge / Lifeguard or a willingness to get all listed certifications prior to start date. 

• Knowledge of coaching methods. 

• Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and availability to work days/nights/weekends/holidays. 

• Knowledge of all RMAC Conference and NCAA rules/bylaws. 

• Able to be a positive representative of the Western Colorado University at all times.

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, the men’s and women’s swim head coach will recruit qualified student-athletes for the programs, instruct and develop student-athletes in the sport of swimming, organize all logistics for home and away meets, and participate in community involvement. The Head Coach will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department and Hood College. The secondary duty for the head coach will be to support the Director of Aquatics in the overall management of the pool.

Head Coach (60%)

Coaching, Instruction, and Team Administration

Model and instruct student-athletes in departmental, College, Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures including Hood Honor Code, Alcohol Policy, Code of Conduct, Travel Policy, Conference bylaws and proceedings, and NCAA guidelines;
Organize and conduct practices during the traditional season and non-traditional seasons;
Develop team travel and security plans in compliance with departmental and College guidelines for safety and other requirements;
Serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in- and out-of-season competition. Supervise team during all travel, lead team during the event;
Manage and account for team money distributed for meal and/or other expenses. Submit required forms and reports to Director of Athletics and Accounting Department;

Refer student-athletes to College resources as necessary to assist with academic, medical, and/or personal issues that may arise throughout the year;
Represent the Department of Athletics at all on-campus Admission Open Houses and/or other predetermined events.
Recruiting (20%)

Work with Director of Athletics and Department of Admission to develop annual recruiting plan for identifying prospective student-athletes;
Work with Department of Admissions to recruit qualified student-athletes; both incoming freshmen and transfers, to Hood College;
Work closely with Sports Information Director to develop annual media plan that includes media guides, news releases, etc. for promotion of student-athletes, the team, and the College;
Distribute recruiting responsibilities amongst assistant and GA;
Respond to prospective student inquiries and maintain record of contacts.
Aquatics Management (20%)

Promote community participation and use of aquatics facilities as a source of additional revenue for the College.
Help plan, schedule, assign and supervise the work of lifeguards, swim instructors, cashiers, and attendants.
Assist in administering the aquatics budget and monitor accounts for revenue and expenses.
Help negotiate contracts with outside groups that want to use Hood College aquatic facilities.

Compensation

This is a position with an annual starting salary range of $49,500 to $55,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors.
