IU’s Steele Swims 28.2 75 with Fins Backstroke, VT’s Ramadan 28.4 Butterfly

We’ve entered new territory. Not only are the 75s getting faster, but now we are branching out on strokes. Indiana’s Jacob Steele and Brendan Burns threw down a 75 backstroke, Steele clocking 28.2 while Burns was 29.0.

Meanwhile, at Virginia Tech, Hokie Youssef Ramadan registered a 28.4 while swimming butterfly.

If Ramadan could have held his breath until his second stroke on the last 25 he would have been sub 28. Not hating on him–this is impressive–but it’s a great video to show how breathing on the first butterfly stroke really causes the hips to sink and head to rise way too high.

Shows you how insular breaststrokers are. They go on and on about Shymanovich and haven’t mentioned their Dolphinovich in the challenge.

Coaches got better educated and less lazy, and now swimmers go 39 in the 100 free. 🙃

You have no idea hour many years it takes to develop a distance swimmer to race 100 x 100 x 1:00. Lazy coaches, not in my book. I’ve been lucky to develop two swimmers that could handle this and they are both National Champions.

Hey — If Bobby Finke can outsplit all the 200 guys in the Tokyo finals with his last 50 of his 1500, I’d want to see that distance guy do the 75.
