The Houston Swimming & Diving team picked up eleven top-three finishes en route to a first-place finish at the North Texas Relays, Friday afternoon at the LISD Westside Aquatic Center in Lewisville, Texas.
For the second straight year, the Cougars beat out the field, finishing in first-place at the event. Houston scored a total of 428 points, 60 points more than second-place finisher and host school North Texas.
Houston secured podium finishes in eleven out of 12 events, including six first-place finishes.
Newcomer, Angeliki Mavrantz joined Peyton Kondis and Gaby Jimenez in the 3 x 100 Backstroke, earning a first-place finish with a time of 3:17.56.
Freshmen Samantha Medlin and Mykenzie Leehy closed out their first collegiate race with a top finish in the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay, finishing the race in a time of 7:39.40.
Kondis, Brown, Rebecca Cox and Eleanna Koutsouveli would earn the third top finish of the afternoon in the 4 x 100 Medley.
Freshmen, Medlin and Reese Lamph joined Brown in the 3 x 500 Freestyle, finishing with a time of 15:18.09 for a first-place finish.
Lauren Burrell closed out the competition with a pair of first-place finishes in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter Springboard.

Houston will return to action on Oct. 12 when the team travels to San Antonio where it will face Incarnate Word.

The North Texas swimming and diving team took second place with 368 points at the annual North Texas Relays on Friday afternoon. Houston claimed the top spot with 428 points, and SMU finished third with 328 points.
“This team really worked together tonight,” North Texas head coach Brittany Roth said. “Relays can bring the best out of athletes.”
The freestyle relay team of Brittany Thurstin, Jowita Sienczyk, Isabelle Morris and Emma Beth Jensen won the 500-yard freestyle ladder relay (4:39.47) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.89).
“Our freestyle athletes really rose to the occasion tonight,” Roth said.
The Mean Green earned second-place finishes in three other freestyle events, including the 800-yard freestyle relay, in which Thurstin, Morris, Leigh Faires McGee and Sara Whelan clocked in just 0.12 seconds behind Houston.
“We had some really great races tonight,” Roth said. “It’s always fun when it’s close. Sara had an awesome night, and it was so great to see her start to hit her stride this early in the season.”
Claudia Kitching, Meaghan Rousset and Sarah Vaisse helped North Texas to a silver-medal finish in the 3×100-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 3:19.28. Kitching and Vaisse also made up a 400-yard individual medley relay team that took second with a time of 3:59.26 and a 400-yard medley relay team that finished third with a time of 3:54.40.
On the boards, Allison Crites led the way for North Texas, finishing fourth in both the one-meter (266.55) and three-meter (319.25) events.
“[Diving coach] Mark Murdock has a solid group of veterns,” Roth said, “and with newcomer Meghan Miller, they will definitely be key to our team’s success.”
