Wisconsin Green Bay, Indianapolis Lead at House of Champions

After day one of the House of Champions invite at IUPUI, The University of Wisconsin Green Bay leads the women’s team battle. The men are lead by the University of Indianapolis. Full results can be found here.

IUPUI:

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams found the home water friendly on day one of the 12th House of Champions inside the Natatorium on Friday (Nov. 20). The IUPUI women’s 200 free relay set a new school record and just missed a new meet record and freshman Ben Levart later posted a new school record in the 500 free.

The women’s team is second among 10 teams with 383 points while the men’s team is third of nine teams with 341 points.

The quartet of Maranda Buha, Alexis Bullard, Madison Taylor and Lexie Meade posted a decisive win in the 200 free relay at 1:33.90, trimming more than a tenth of a second off the previous mark. Meade closed hard, helping IUPUI win the race by more than half a second. The Jaguars ‘B’ entry of Mary Klueh, Tori Kroon, Lauren Campbell and Brittani Grovefinished fifth at 1:36.82.

In the 500 free, both Maddie Bradford and Jordyn Harrison showed well, finishing second and seventh respectively in the finals. Bradford touched with the fifth-best time in school history at 5:00.38 and Harrison swam a personal best time of 5:08.83. In the men’s 500, freshman Ben Levart blazed to a school record time of 4:29.57 in a second-place finish. Classmate David Sweezer finished fourth in the finals at 4:33.98 in the fifth-best time in school history.

The 200 IM belonged to Allison Cicero, who swam a winning time of 2:06.39 as the Jaguars’ lone representative in the A-final. Tori Kroon won the B-final at 2:07.49 and Carmen Escalante Ruiz won the C-final at 2:09.10. The men’s 200 IM saw Jon Stoller place third overall at 1:51.79 and Josh Barajas placing sixth at 1:54.89.

Buha and Meade continued to build off their fantastic relay effort by placing second and third in the 50 free. Neither were able to match their prelim times as Buha touched at 23.76 and Meade closed at 23.84. In the men’s race, the always dependable Lennart Kuesterfinished second at 20.72 and Aaron Brysch was fifth at 21.27. Jared Allen was sixth at 21.30 and Trenton Wolfe was third in the B-final at 21.55. Josh Garmon won the C-final at 21.52.

The women’s 400 medley relay finished fourth as the B entry of Bradford, Kroon, Ruiz and Grove ended at 3:52.99. The men’s quartet placed third overall at 3:27.65 as Brysch, Stoller,Andrew Olson and Kuester.

Diving events, which will not be factored into team scoring, included synchronized and platform events on Friday. Both the men’s and women’s teams had entries in the synchronized dives and freshman standout Krisztian Somhegyi was the Jaguars’ lone participant off the platform.

Action will resume on Saturday morning with the prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m.. Live results will be posted throughout the event here and those planning on attending can purchase tickets at the door. All session passes cost $20 and are $10 for youths, ages 3-12. Single-session passes will be $5 each and youth single-session tickets are just $2. In addition, standard university parking rates may apply.

 

Evansville:

A busy first day of action took place as the University of Evansville swimming and diving teams opened up the House of Champions in Indianapolis.

The men performed well in the 200 free relay, coming in third place.  Everett Plocek, Ethan O’Rourke, Matt Duke and Matt Childress combined to swim a 1:24.56.  Plocek registered a solid finish in the 50 free.  His final of 21.58 put him in 12th place overall.

In the 400 medley relay, O’Rourke and Plocek joined Dan O’Brien and Troy Burger to record an 8th place with their time of 3:27.71.

Evansville’s women also did well in the 200 free relay.  Mackenzie Harris, Maja Magnusson, Kristen Myers and Michaela Kent teamed up to take 4th place out of 19 teams with their effort of 1:36.78.  On her own, Kent came home in 9th in the 50 free, swimming a 24.00.

UE’s women did well in the 400 medley relay as Kent, Amy Smith, Charlotte Lechner and Harris took 8thwith a 3:58.56.

Maja Magnusson came in sixth place in the 500 free.  Her time checked in at a 5:08.45 out of the 24 participants in the final.  Jessi Hildebrand took 15th in the event, swimming a 5:18.52.

Eastern Illinois:

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Upon the completion of the first day at the House of Champions at IUPUI, the Eastern Illinois men’s & women’s swimming teams earned points for both of their respective squads based on competing in the finals in numerous events.

The quartet of Shane Witzki, Brogan O’Doherty, Stephen Truchon, and Steve Fishman earned a 10th place finish in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 1:27.38. O’Doherty and Truchon teamed up with Jennings Soccorso and Brandon Robbins in the 400-yard medley relay and earned themselves a 12th place finish (3:35.24). The 50-yard freestyle was the top finishing event for the men as three members competed in the finals. Fishman was the top finisher with a time of 21.56 for 18th place. Truchon finished not far behind at 21.75 for the 20th best mark. Witzki rounded out the list in 24th place with a time of 22.43. Jake Roberts led the Panthers in the 500-yard freestyle for a 14th place finish at 4:51.07. While teammate, Kyle Ruckert, posted a 22nd place finish with a time of 4:56.77.

Joann Wakefield, Kelsey Ferguson, Danielle DiMatteo, and Kaylee Morris completed the 200-yard freestyle in 12th place with a time of 1:40.32. Fallyn Schwake, Lauren Oostman, Beth Houghton, and Caitlin Danforth finished in 17th place in the same event at 1:45.65. Carolyn Belford, Paige Eavenson, Martee Grainger, and Oostman earned 16th place honors in the 400-yard medley relay with a final time of 4:09.62. Morris was the lone female Panther to earn a spot in the finals in an individual event. She finished the 50-yard freestyle in 20th place at 24.71

The EIU men’s & women’s swimming squads will continue competing at the House of Champions as the second day sessions will begin tomorrow morning.

 

Lewis University:
