In Brief: Arielle Hayon won a pair of events and Rice captured five of seven individual events in addition to both relays to wrap up the 2022 Fall Splash at the Rice Competition Pool on Saturday. Rice finished the two days of competition with 391 points, followed by Houston (308) and Incarnate Word (115).
The Details: Hayon added the 50 free (23.58) and 100 fly (54.16) victories to her win in the 200 fly on Friday while also swimming a leg on the Owls’ 400 free and 200 medley relays. Zoe Spitz completed a sweep of the backstroke events with a win in the 100 backstroke (54.62) and finished second to Hayon in the 50 free along with swimming on both relays as well. Freshman Ella Dyson added a win in the 1,000 free (10:09.43) to her win in the 500 on Friday. Lauren McDougall captured the 200 free (1:50.63) and Imogen Meers bested the field in the 200 IM (2:05.04) to round out the Owls list of winners on Saturday.
Seth Huston: “Great weekend of competition for the Owls. I was really impressed with overall team attitude and support for each other. Talking with Assistant coach Jess Rodriguez, we agreed that ‘Owl In’ culture within the team set our early season performances apart from previous season openers. I’m looking forward to our next preparation block of training before our Senior Day, November 4th against Tulane.”
Up Next: Rice will honor its senior class on November 4 when they close out their 2022-23 home schedule with their first American Athletic Conference dual meet, hosting Tulane at 4 p.m.
