Haughey, Kinney Named Big Ten Swimmers of the Week

Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey garnered Big Ten freshman of the week honors, also sharing swimmer of the week honors with Wisconsin’s Chase Kinney. Haughey won 3 events against Ohio State and West Virginia: The 100 free (48.58), 200 free (1:46.77), and 200 IM (1:58.91). Kinney won the 50 free (22.39) and 100 free (49.10) against Auburn and Florida State before going on to win the 50 free (22.46) and 100 free (49.23) against Georgia the next day. Minnesota’s Yu Zhou swept the springboard events against Northwestern and Purdue to earn diver of the week honors.

  • Collected a trio of first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (48.58), 200-yard freestyle (1:46.77) and 200-yard individual medley (1:58.91), and contributed to a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.99) against Ohio State and West Virginia
  • Times in all three individual events are NCAA provisional qualifying marks
  • Earns her first career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award and fifth Freshman of the Week honor

Co-Swimmer of the Week
Chase Kinney, Wisconsin

Jr. – Canton, Ohio – Jackson High School

  • Collected a combined seven first-place finishes and added a second-place mark on the weekend against Auburn, Florida State and Georgia
  • Finished first in all four events she participated in against Auburn and Florida State, including the  50-yard freestyle (22.39), 100-yard freestyle (49.10), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:20.27) and 200-yard medley relay (1:39.51)
  • Recorded a trio of wins in the 50-yard freestyle (22.46), 100-yard freestyle (49.23) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:20.53), and contributed to a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.07) against Georgia
  • Times in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events in both competitions are NCAA provisional qualifying marks
  • Earns her second career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week: Danielle Valley (Jan. 13, 2016)

 

Diver of the Week

Yu Zhou, Minnesota

Jr. – Wuhan, China –Beijing College of Sports

  • Swept the springboard events with a score of 296.45 on one-meter and 370.40 in three-meter diving en route to wins over Northwestern and Purdue
  • Scores in both events are NCAA Zone qualifying marks
  • Earns her 11th career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Minnesota Diver of the Week: Yu Zhou (Jan. 20, 2016)
