Gretchen Walsh, Kacper Stokowski Named ACC Swimmers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Kacper Stokowski and Virginia’s Gretchen Walsh were named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week, respectively, while Pitt’s Dylan Reed and North Carolina’s Aranza Vazquez Montaño repeated as Men’s and Women’s Divers of the Week, respectively.

ACC MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Kacper Stokowski, Gr., NC State, Warsaw, Poland

Stokowski helped the No. 4 Wolfpack men to sweep No. 18 UVA and UNC over the past weekend, highlighted by setting a pair of pool records. Stokowski placed first in the 100 yard back with a time of 46.02, before leading off the 400 free relay, recording a personal best with a time of 44.18. The Wolfpack went on to set the pool record with a time of 2:52.05, beating the previous record held by Florida from 2022. The Warsaw, Poland, native led off the 400 medley relay with a 45.92 split, setting a pool record of 3:07.89 and crushing the previous record set by Texas in 2021 by two seconds.

ACC WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Gretchen Walsh, Jr., Virginia, Nashville, Tennessee

Walsh secured two NCAA “A” cut times in No. 1 Virginia’s sweep of No. 8 NC State and No. 20 North Carolina. The junior placed first in the 50 free (20.98) and 100 free (46.40). She helped the Cavaliers win four relays with first-place finishes in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and the 400 free Relay. Walsh’s 21.50 split in the 200 medley relay was the fastest split in history for the 50 fly and her 20.19 split in the 200 free relay was the fastest in history for the 50 free. The Nashville, Tennessee, native set three AFC pool records in the 100 free (46.40), the 200 free (1:26.47) and the 100 back with her time of 48.77 in her leg of the 400 medley relay.

ACC MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Dylan Reed, Fifth year, Pitt, McLean, Virginia

Reed closed out his career at Trees Pool by winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events during Pitt’s Senior Meet against Minnesota. The McLean, Virginia, native won the 1-meter with a new season-high 400.28 points and the 3-meter with 427.73 points.

ACC WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Aranza Vazquez Montaño, Sr., North Carolina, La Paz, Mexico

Montaño split the diving events in No. 20 UNC’s meet with No. 1 Virginia and No. 8 NC State. The senior won the 1-meter with a 319.40 and placed second in the 3-meter with a 321.35. The La Paz, Mexico, native registered a pair of NCAA zone scores on both dives.

Don’t know about that, but the thought of UVA, Cal, Stanford, NCS all facing off at ACCs will be fun to watch, that’s for sure.

Speak with the NCS Sports Info Dept. Each school may only nominate one athlete in each category. But, for the record, I agree that Mr. McCarty swam phenomenally.well this weekend.
