Omaha Westside High School’s Thomas Lundin has announced his decision to swim for Cleveland State University beginning in the fall of 2020. He shared the news on his Twitter page:

Lundin is set to graduate from Omaha Westside High School in the spring of 2020. At the Nebraska High School State Championships, Lundin earned one gold and three silver medals. He was runner-up in the 50 free (21.05) behind Tommy Palmer of Lincoln Southwest. Lundin had been seeded 4th after prelims and was able to move up to 2nd. Not long after, he got back on the block for the 100 fly. His time of 49.87 earned him his second silver medal. He also took part in two of his school’s relays. Omaha Westside earned the gold medal in the 200 medley relay. Colin Davis swam back, Kaden Guzman swam breast, Lundin swam fly, and Nate Germonprez anchored with free. Lundin led off his team’s 200 free relay, followed by Guzman, Eli Gosnell, and Jack Bailey. The men tried to come from behind Creighton Prep but fell short at the end, earning the silver medal.
Lundin — who is currently unattached in club swimming — recently competed at the Winter Junior Championships in Federal Way, WA. He qualified for the 100 and 200 fly, and swam a time trial for the 50 fly. He placed 102nd in the 100 fly, touching with a season-best time of 50.54. His 200 fly time of 1:52.59 earned 73rd and a new personal best time. This swim was 3 seconds faster than his previous best time of 1:55.50 that he went less than a year earlier.
Lundin made similar improvements during the long course season. In the summer of 2019, he dropped his 100 fly time from a 1:00.70 to a 56.67. He improved his 200 fly time from a 2:15.4 in 2018 to a 2:08.0 in 2019. Last summer, his times qualified him for the Futures meet in Des Moines for the 100 and 200 fly and the 200 IM. He made if back into the B-final in the 200 fly, and the A-final in the 100 fly. In the finals race of the 100 fly, Lundin moved from 8th place to 5th place.

Lundin will be joining the 2020 Horizon League runners-up in the fall of 2020. His 200 fly time would have placed him in the B-final at the championship meet, while his 100 fly would have placed him 17th. If he continues to improve his times, Lundin could move up in the rankings and score more points for Cleveland State University. He will be joining Aiden Morris, Blake Fry, Jake Taulbee, and Kenny Thomas as a member of the class of 2024.
