Listen to what Bob Bowman and Huki Kos have to say after winning Texas’ 17th NCAA Swimming Men’s team title.

Y’all have probably seen this but I hadn’t until just now, so just in case: https://youtu.be/h6pZK7oVrBc?si=32B96Pf6BmyMo3Gg
10 min clip from Bob’s talk at the coaches association (and the part I really wanted to see where he talks about the pro personalities). What he says about Hubi at this talk kind of sheds some light on this interview and what Bob says about him maturing.
3 types of illness with the team..certainly explains their last 50 on 200 events..Kudos to their toughness on that last day!!
Does anyone know who was sick and who was injured?
Now with that over, time for bobs real plan to break the 2back WR 😛
Also I still find it so amusing to see Hubi wearing a cowboy hat.
Haha
Bob was modest here I’ll give him that but at the end of the day Nesty is a better coach. Bob is good at maintaining talented athletes that have come to the program but come on.. he wouldn’t have any chance of being is where he is today without Phelps.
Wish Luka would have chosen Indiana or Florida especially with his potential going into LA Olympics. Luckily for Phelps – Bob could focus on his development and work with him as an amateur in his first Olympics in Sydney and in Athens. Luka will not get that kind of attention. He won’t.
Well Luka was the one who chose the school so clearly thought Texas was a better fit for him……
And I disagree, I honestly think Luka will get more attention than other swimmers by the time he’s there. At least on the college team. Maybe even the most
He chose Texas because they’re paying him 500K lol I’d think that was the better fit too
I heard he is getting a million, plus a condo and a driver so he doesn’t have to walk to practice. Too hard to pass this up, right?!
I heard they’re just giving him the degree on his first day, why waste time going to class?
You realize Ahmed^2 came in with an Olympic gold and World titles right
I think you are letting one mediocre meet for Maurer, possibly because of recent illness, cloud your judgment on how he and others have progressed under Bowman.
Maurer set an American record..
Literally. Just look at Hubi! Also Maurer was sick a lot of the season
Hubi wasn’t even a backstroker before he started training with Bob. Bob had him do backstroke because they needed the NCAA points.
Ehhh. That’s a bit of revisionist history.
He definitely shifted away from IMs and to backstroke once he started training with Bowman, but in April 2022 at 19 and before coming to the US, he was already the Hungarian Champion in the 200 back. He swam it later that summer at the European Championships.
I was wondering about that last week, if any of the backstrokers were staring at the scoreboard coming home. It is a big prominent board that would be smack in front of them on the far wall.
There’s no sense looking up at the roof in that Georgia Tech venue because the cement columns run diagonally instead of following the direction of the pool.
Whe Bob took the job people didn’t think he’d have a title for a couple of years. Instead he’s delivered chips back to back years. Yea he’s got a nuke in Kos but he’s largely responsible for developing him. And yes he’s got another one coming with Luka but there’s a reason he’s got this caliber of talent coming to him. He’s won 3 straight nattys for a reason. Next year will be tougher and maybe they’re not the favorites but he’s gonna have em ready to fight.
he had a junior world record and Olympic final before he even heard of Bob.
he in fact did not have an Olympic final before he even heard of bob
It is Leon Marchand who made the 400IM Olympic final in Tokyo. However, Kos finished 20th in the 200IM. Which was actually two spots below Marchand.
I’m pretty sure everyone expected them to get a title immediately.
IRO, In september 2024 they didn’t have Giuliano yet, cal was tough, and Rex wasn’t even a scorer. Thats straight up almost 100 individual points, and 20 more on relays from giuliano alone. Also germonprez wasn’t very developed as a breastroker.
Quite the opposite as I recall
Texas fans weren’t even quite sure how it was going to go in the first year or two
Cmon man 4/6 of their individual scorers were transfers! He didn’t develop jack
Gotta be a troll lololol.
They had 7 individual scorers, only 3 of them were transfers, 1 of those 3 transferred with Bowman from Arizona State.
Braden is so right. And also, those transfers chose to come to Bob and train with HIM. Why are we being so ridiculous in this sport?
I think he’s counting McKean as a transfer for some reason
I know I’m a giant sap but I am always so touched by how these two speak about each other: the enormous trust Hubi has in Bob and the huge pride Bob has in Hubi’s development :’) and Bob throwing strays at 3 years ago Hubi was so funny LOL why is that so parental
Happy birthday Hubi, what a way to cap off an incredible college career!! Congratulations Longhorns, so proud of your perseverance and hook em forever <3
Yea tbh Marchand/Bob seems more professional. Phelps/Bob seemed like an often love/hate relationship until his comeback. Bob is simply enamored with Hubi.
Michael and Bob have both said outright that Michael took his anger at his own dad not being around on Bob, and Bob didn’t really know how to handle that till the comeback and attitude change, like you said. I think it’s the sweetest found family store ever and I’m honestly obsessed with all the lore (airport screaming matches, dents in the doors LOL), but I think that was a lightning in a bottle situation and most coach/athlete relationships could not survive the volatility.
Agree that Leon and Bob seem more professional; Leon maybe comes across as having more self confidence than Hubi to me, so maybe he relies on that validation less? Not sure. I always think it’s sweet… Read more »
Léon said at the beginning of 2022 that Bob was like quite a member of his family and was very protective with him. But he was still a freshman in a new country and hasn’t won any medal at bigger stages yet. And yes, their relationship has evolved into a more professional way since. It’s completely logical. Léon is a pro now in a star-studded group with much more autonomy (I guess he had decided on his own last year to take a trip to Australia, which had made Bob quite unhappy at first sight).
Yes, It is endearing to see how proud Bob is of Hubi’s development. I like that Hubi was laughing at his joke about Hubi NOT being the go-to guy 3 years ago. Given the way Bob is speaking of him here, I really hope this pays off with a stellar Europeans for him.
