Friesen Pulls off 100 Breast 4-Peat at Colorado 4A State Championships

2017 COLORADO 4A GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Cheyenne Mountain girls had a breakthrough at the 2017 Colorado Girls 4A High School State Championships. After coming in 2nd or 3rd and falling just short of a title over the last several seasons, they earned their first state title since 2002. In doing so, they knocked off the defending champions from Valor Christian, who took 2nd this time around.

Windsor’s Morgan Friesen was among the top performers individually. Friesen pulled off an impressive 4-peat in the 100 breast, completing the career sweep with a 1:03.72 for gold to out-touch Air Academy’s Aleks Olesiak (1:03.99). She was even faster than that in prelims, however, as she posted a 1:03.27 in the morning heats. Friesen was a double champion, as she also claimed back-to-back titles with her 2:06.55 in the 200 IM earlier in the session.

Heritage junior Kylie Andrews was also a multiple event winner. Her first win came in the 100 free, where she popped a 50.59 to outpace Pueblo South’s Lainee Jones (51.12). Jones has won the 200 free earlier in the session, taking gold in 1:50.58. Following up on her 100 free win, Andrews returned for the 100 back. She clocked in at 55.67 to out-touch Fort Collins’ Audrey Reimer (55.74) by a nail at the finish.
