LOS ANGELES- The Fresno State swim team wrapped up their first day of competition at the eleven-team A3 Performance Invitational Thursday night.
The first day of competition included the 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relay. Prelims began at 9 a.m. PT followed by finals at 5 p.m. PT.
“We had a great night in the individual swims,” said head coach Jeanne Fleck. “Ugne Mazutaityte, Esme Gullick and Manuela Mendolicchio all clocked season-best times in their events. Our relays are a work in progress, but we are getting better every race.”
In the 200 Freestyle Relay final, Fresno State’s team of Kali Conlon, Hannah Jarvis, Ally Short and Katelin Britton took eighth place with a time of 1:35.72.
Sophomore Ugne Mazutaityte led the Bulldogs in the 500 Freestyle final with a seventh place finish (4:56.74).
Freshman Manuela Mendolicchio competed in the consolation final for the 200 IM, she finished in 14th overall with a time of 2:05.88. Senior Esme Gullick competed in the bonus final of the 200 IM and placed 17th overall (2:03.88).
As for the 400 Medley Relay final, the Fresno State team of Mazutaityte, Mendolicchio, Britton and Gullick finished seventh with a time of 3:49.47.
After day one, the Bulldogs sit in eighth place with a team score of 137.
