Florida High School 3A Regionals: Meet Highlights & State Qualifiers

The Florida High School Athletic Association’s 2016 state meet series is in full swing, with the Class 3A regional meets now complete. The top 24 swimmers from the combined regions will move on to the Class 3A State Championships.

Below are all the links you need to view regional results and state qualifiers, as well as a list of regional champions and highlights from the meets.

FHSAA Class 3A Regional Champions

  • Region 1: Lawton Chiles boys, Bartram Trail girls
  • Region 2: Lake Minneola boys, New Smyrna Beach girls
  • Region 3: Venice High School boys, Gulf Coast girls
  • Region 4: Belen Jesuit boys, Martin County girls

Class 3A Regional Meet Highlights

Belen Jesuit’s Aitor Fungairino posted the first sub-1:40 we’ve seen in class 3A so far to become a regional champion in the boys’ 200 free. Fungairino raced to an All-American Consideration time of 1:39.24 to take the title. He also finished 2nd with an AA-C time in the 500 free in a close battle with Doral’s Adrian Aguilar 500 free. The two finished within hundredths of each other, as Aguilar hit the wall first in 4:32.98 to Fungairino’s 4:33.00.

Aguilar’s teammate Adrian Moya also picked up an AA-C time on the way to a regional title. Moya was the 100 fly champ, breaking through the 50 second barrier on his way to a 49.85 victory. Also sub-50 in that race with an AA-C time was regional runner-up Alejandro Carriazo (49.97), a Belen Jesuit senior.

Naples’ Matthew Limbacher impressed with his regional victory in the 100 breast, posting the fastest time of any class so far to win it in 56.85. With that time, he achieved All-American Consideration status.

Estero’s Alina Faunce clocked a pair of AA-C times to establish herself as a 2-time regional champ. She now leads the 3A state meet psych sheets with her 2:03.60 in the 200 IM and 55.75 in the 100 fly. Also picking up an AA-C time on the girls’ side was East Lake’s Annaklara Doel, who leads the state meet psych sheet with her region-winning time of 4:57.45 in the 500 free.
