Flash in the Pool: Ervin Takes Top Seed in 50 Free in Austin

Anthony Ervin just got scary good. After an administrative error, he swam in the last heat of the B-flight of the 50 free, but he was unphased. He posted an unbelievable 22.30 to take the top seed headed into finals ahead of Nathan Adrian’s 22.45 from the A-flight.

At this point, it doesn’t really matter what happens in the final. He now sits atop the World Rankings in the 50 free, and is not only a contender for relay spots, but perhaps the 2nd individual spot in the 50 as well.

Anthony Ervin – Beast Mode

If he improves any more on that swim in the finals, it would set him up to be a major competitor for the 2nd spot In my opinion, his biggest competitors are going to be WeberGale, Feigen and perhaps Schneider. Anywhos, it will take a sub22, perhaps sub21.9 to get that spot, but it’ll be exciting.

Also watch out for Martina Moravcova in the B Final of the 50 free! For flying under the radar, she’s putting some of these other comebacks/older swimmers to shame!

With the way Jones and company are swimming (excluding Adrian), I think Ervin could definitely snag a spot in the 50 in addition to a spot on the 4×100 freestyle relay.
