For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Penn Charter Aquatic Club’s Sarah Foley has verbally committed to the Duke Blue Devils’ class of 2024.

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Duke University! Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teachers for their constant support. Go Duke! 🔵😈

  • 100y breast – 1:01.48
  • 200y breast – 2:12.22
  • 200y IM – 2:02.08
  • 400y IM – 4:19.18
  • 100y free – 52.15
  • 200y free – 1:51.33

Foley is primarily a breaststroker, and she has potential in the IM’s as well. This summer, Foley made it to the 18 & under D final in the 200 breast at the 2019 U.S. National Championships, ultimately placing 30th with a time of 2:34.53.

Foley is the two-time defending Eastern Interscholastic Championships 100 breast champion. Representing Penn Charter, Foley took the title in 2018 (1:02.54) as a sophomore and was second in the 200 IM (2:04.16). This year, as a junior, she won the 100 breast (1:01.48) and was third in the 200 IM (2:02.08). At Easterns this February, Foley also anchored Penn Charter’s winning 400 free relay (50.85) and split a 28.09 breast on their runner-up 200 medley relay.

Duke finished fifth at the 2019 ACC Champs. At that meet, Foley would’ve made the 200 breast B final and the 100 breast C final with her current bests. Her flat start 100 breast is nearly a full second better than Duke’s breaststroker was at ACCs with a flying start, so she could come in and takeover medley relay breaststroke duties as a freshman. Duke also had nobody under 2:15 in the 200 breast last season.

Foley will pair nicely with fellow verbal commit Catherine Belyakov, a 1:01.6/2:14.6 breaststroker and 2:01.4/4:22.2 IM’er.

Foley and Belyakov join Aleyna OzkanEmily LenihanEmily Gjertsen and Catherine Purnell in Duke’s class of 2024.
