Distance Freestyler Kayleigh Lovell Commits to UNLV

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kayleigh Lovell from Girard, Illinois has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

Lovell swims for Springfield YMCA out of Springfield, Illinois. At the end of April, she achieved numerous best times while at the Illinois YMCA Spring Invitational. Those best times were in the 50 (24.77), 100 (52.54), and 500 (4:52.66) freestyles, 200 backstroke (2:01.26), 100 butterfly (1:00.41), and 200 IM (2:08.32). Her 500 freestyle time was also a Winter Juniors cut.

This summer, she earned multiple long course best times while at the Illinois YMCA meet. Those best times were in the 100 freestyle (1:00.68), 100 backstroke (1:07.94), and 200 IM (2:28.18). Back in the summer of 2018, Lovell won the 800 freestyle at the NCSA Championships. That winning time of 8:48.01 also earned her a Summer Nationals cut at the time. She has not competed in the 800 freestyle since August of 2019 at NCSAs where she swam a time of 9:13.04.

Her best short course times are:

  • 100 freestyle: 52.54
  • 200 freestyle: 1:50.00
  • 500 freestyle: 4:52.66
  • 1000 freestyle: 10:03.83
  • 1650 freestyle: 16:49.38
  • 100 backstroke: 56.60
  • 200 backstroke: 2:01.26

UNLV is a public university located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The school is a member of the Mountain West Conference. At the 2021 Mountain West Championships, the Rebels captured the conference title in what was a close battle with the University of Nevada. The Rebels scored 1349 points compared to Nevada’s 1340. It was the Rebels’ first Mountain West title in 16 years and only the second in school history.

Based on her best times, Lovell has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level and in the school’s all-time top-10. Her best times would have earned her ‘A’ final finishes in the 200, 500, and 1650 freestyles as well as the 200 backstroke. Her 100 backstroke best time would have earned her a ‘B’ final finish as well. Her best times would also put her in the top 10 in school history in the 500 and 1650 freestyles.

Lovell will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
