Sprinter Estevan Salazar Commits to St. Norbert

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Estevan Salazar from Taos, New Mexico has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at St. Norbert College beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I want to thank Coach Hannah Saiz for the interest that was shown in the potential of my swimming abilities. She has made me feel comfortable every step of the way during the recruiting process and visits.  It really feels like an environment where I can succeed in.”

Salazar swims for Taos Swim Club out of Taos, NM. In June at the VAST Summer Open, he earned best short course times in the 100 freestyle (51.72) and 200 backstroke (2:14.37, 2:13.17 altitude adjusted).

He has continued his short course success into this fall already. In October at the CUDA Spooktacular, he earned best times in the 50 freestyle (23.87), 50 backstroke (27.31), 50 butterfly (26.97), and 100 IM (1:01.52).

Salazar began his senior year this fall at Taos High School.

His best short course times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 23.87
  • 100 freestyle: 51.72
  • 50 backstroke: 27.31
  • 100 backstroke: 58.60

St. Norbert College is a Division III, private college located in De Pere, Wisconsin. The school is a member of the Midwest Conference.

St. Norbert’s men’s program is a very new program as it first began competing in the 2018-2019 school year and didn’t compete during the 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19. Even with the men’s program in their second season, the team finished third out of nine teams at the 2020 Midwest Conference Championships. The team was led by Ben Stolberg who won the 200 backstroke (1:51.91) and finished second in both the 100 backstroke (51.90) and 50 freestyle (21.26).

Salazar is just off of scoring times as it took 23.16 in the 50 and 51.27 in the 100 freestyle to earn a second swim at the 2020 Midwest Conference Championships.

Salazar will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
