Competing against a strong field in Athens, Ga., Burnett took first place in both the 1-meter (371.5) and 3-meter dives (381.9) and added a top three finish in the platform dive.

“This is awesome,” head diving coach Jim Stillson said when he heard the news. “Devin’s performance this past weekend was excellent against tough competition from the SEC and the ACC.”

Prior to the Georgia Diving Invite, Burnett recorded a third place finish in the 1-meter dive and placed sixth in the 3-meter dive at the Texas A&M Invitational. When SMU opened its season with a dual meet at TCU back in November, the junior finished first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.

“I am very pleased with the progress he has made thus far this season,” Stillson continued. “I’m looking forward to watching him as the second semester is set to begin.”

Burnett and the Mustangs are back in action on Thursday, Jan. 7 as they travel to Baton Rouge, La., for a dual meet with LSU. The meet begins at 1 p.m. CT.
